the big 16g install, need some help...

alright so heres the deal. im new to the forums and im currently in pittsburgh pa.

ive got a 95 talon TSI, in the electric blue color, FWD turbo. the turbo is starting to go on the car, so i figured if im going to replace it why not upgrade right?

i know as long as i dont up the boost, keep it around 8-10psi with the stock fuel system ill be good.

now my buddy had a 96 TSI with a big 16g with a completely upgraded fuel system, and when he tried to run stock boost level, it would shoot up to 18psi... he was running the wastegate that came with the 16g.

my question, do i need to swap the wastegate from the 16g to the stock one to make sure the stock boost setting will stay the same?

also is there anything i should know before diving into the project?

im planning on doing this install over the weekend, so ill post pics and progress of the install.

With that leak at the oil pan, make sure you are using the bolts with the washers on them. Those bolts go into the pan and oil will find its way out through the threads without those washers.

funny you say that... i was asking my buddy if there was supposed to be a washer on the oil pan drain bolt or not... i member there was a POS plastic one on the daytona that worked just fine... plastic washer required?


Do you always drive by PNC Park? I see a Talon just like yours run across the 6th Street Bridge almost every day at lunch time... I dunno, just thought I'd ask. ROFL

actually most likely me.... i just painted the wheels, and it has a "JDM as ####" sticker on the passenger side rear window... i use to live up at allegheny center, thats where the college housing was... now im up in allentown with a nice 3 room house :)

got a fuel pump? :)

Oh my goodness. I just noticed you worked on your car jacked up on rocks and only cardboard under the jack and jack stands! Oh my god how unsafe! :notgood:

cmon now, im not that stupid... if you look close enough its actually piece of wood under the jackstand and under the jack itself... the cardboard is more for comfort :)

DSM-onster - im guessing i have an ebay special turbo then? it has no other markings on it besides the little metal plate, and it just says its a EVO III big 16g... think itll work just as well?


im going to put the RTV on it right now... let it dry for a bit, and take it for a spin... ill let yah know what happens from there.
 
if your running alot fo boost upgrade the fuel system at the very least do a fuel pump id rewire it to if your hiting 20lbs of boost not good you' kill the motor will be way to lean ive got a big 16 going on thursday and im not pushing over 13lbs and ive got a -6an fuel feedline 255 wlabro and fuel pressure regulator the stock injectors are holding me back at the moment but im geting 650 on thursday as well. Im not going to run them untill i get somthing to tune with

These turbos seam to have later spool. I notice the bigger turbine housing and the a/ stamped on the bac is 0.70 much bigger than a MHI 16g turbine housing. So later spool but much more flow:thumb: . Again, just be sure to keep updating.
