Tensioner clip?

Hey guys I got my timing belt tensioner in the mail for my 6 bolt,and I was wondering what the clip thats stuck in it for? do i take it out? Also since my engine is out of the car,I dont need to have the timing belt tool correct? Im just trying to put my engine together and Im not sure what to do with the tensioner. Thanks!

Leave the clip ("pin") in. You will pull it after you install it and correctly set the timing (see instructions at the link below). By tool, I'm guessing you mean the threaded rod? It's not needed but, if you mess up, you will have to remove the tensioner and slowing push the rod back in with a vise or c-clamp. It is very time consuming since you have to un-bolt the tensioner and push the rod in very slowly to prevent damaging the tensioner.

so is stick the tensioner in the groove, bolt it down and pull the pin? Do i Do this after I have set the timing? thanks for your help man.
