Ok so my car is running super hot according to dsmlink (230 degrees hot) but yet me temperature gauge never goes past half way. I removed my thermostat and it helped a little but not enough. my question is why would dsmlink be reading so hot and the temp gauge not show it overheating at all. Oh and im not currently boiling over my overflow or anything..

if im correct the 1 wire sensor down there is for the gauge and the 2 wire sensor right beside it is for the ecu... so is there a chance that if i had the 2 wires for the ecu crossed that may be why i have such a high reading in dsmlink?

this is happening to the gf's car also. although it will just randomly overheated and shut off. sometimes will run all day and be fine, sometimes just around the block and will overheat. but regardless it will be read with dsmlink correctly while stock gauge doesn't really change

update from today. installed another fan. 1 pusher and 1 puller. installed a brand new therostat. fans are wired to be on when ignition is turned on.
this is when it gets weird dsmlink was now reading up to almost 290 degrees! but yet my upper hose was real cool and my lower hose was warm but i wouldnt say hot. And i didnt have anything coming out the overflow. The dash gauge was still reading fine also...
Is there anyway dsmlink could be reading wrong?
So far..
new thermostat
spal slim fan as a pusher
stock fan as a puller
fans constantly on

WHAT NOW! HELP IM LOST!

Have you tried to use an aftermarket gauge to see what the temp truly is, the stock gauge is never reliable in my opinion. As far as to why dsm link is reading such high number, im not sure but the external gauge can help you rule out any misconceptions.

The stock temp guage location REALLY sucks, its why my engine was fried on the freeway.
Lose a little coolant and it may blow your seal on your radiator cap, no pressure= boiling at 212* plus what a little coolant gives you.
The issue is the sensor is at the very top of the system, my temp guage was in the middle, because thats what it was reading, yet the water level was below it and not heating up the sensor!
Needless to say its rebuilt and awaiting my return to the desert for install

I'm assuming you are talking about normal driving? As long as your coolant level is full and you aren't leaking, then I'm sure your radiator is doing the same job it always has and keeping the engine at the right temp.

tonight ill be installing the aftermarket sensor/ gauge. hopefully i just have a discrempency with the dsmlink reading..

ok well my dsmlink was reading stupid hot but yet my dash gauge was reading alright. i then replaced my coolant temp sensor, wired up another fan so i got a pusher and a puller (on all the time) and put in a new thermostat.

My dsmlink was still just reading head warping hot. i was not boiling over my overflow however.. and my hoses dont feel hot at all..

I hooked up an aftermarket coolant gauge/ sending unit today and my reading were normal. So i have my dash reading normal and my aftermarket gauge reading normal. How can dsmlink' be messed up? Is there a way to set the temp in dsmlink and make it a "fake" temp so it doesnt move at all?

What would you guys recomend. Any help is appreciated!

I want to try to rewire my sensor to the ecu directly. So going by this just connect the one wire to pin 20 (ill double check and make sure thats the coolant pin) and then run another wire all the way to the ecu for the sensor ground?

EDIT: Confirmed Pin 20 = Coolant Temp Sensor and Pin 24 = Sensors Ground
