Techboy's 99 4G63

This Profile covers my 1999 X13 GST I've owned since 2005. I purchased the car in NH with 46K on it, and it currently has just over 60K (as of 2018).

Are they the same as a 1G dsm rack?

I had bronze chrome in my EVO 9 wheels for a bit. It's a single stage color and very very nice. My car is Paprika Red so a little tougher to judge the look.

Personally, I would go with gray.

Ive had it in my head for a few years i was gonna go bronze, but something about the Grey against the black I think would look really sweet.

Been working on these wheels that past few weeks. Hoping to get them dropped off for powder soon. There was some curb rash, nothing crazy, but it needs to be addressed before dropping them for powder.

Started by just using a soft pad on my grinder.

Then I moved to wet sanding with some 400.

Huge improvement after the 400, but I still want to run out to the autoparts store and pick up some 600 and 800.

I finally finished up getting the curb rash on this wheels all prepped and dropped them off for powder.

Powder guy gave me these options for the bronze a clear coat on the bronze chrome. Gloss ---- Satin --- Nothing
OqsH2Y.jpg

The gloss is a little much for me, so that's a NO. It's very orange-peeled too. I'm surprised how muted the satin finish makes it. Leaning toward just letting them go even though he's recommending a clear coat.

The one on the right already has a pretty high gloss level, it may end up looking like the middle one in a few years with no topcoat depending on how well it deals with UV outside. Most of the reason applicators recommend topcoat is to prevent adhesion issues if salt gets on there and makes its way to the aluminum and starts doing nasty things like bubbling corrosion or flaking. Generally adhesion kind of stinks for powdercoats so roughening up the surface with sandpaper or other methods is the best and making sure its totally degreased you should be fine if you just keep them clean after doing snow doughnuts :)

Thanks for the input. My car hasn't seen a winter in somewhere near 20 years, so I'm not too worried about salt and other road crap like that, so I agree, it should be fine. Car is really only driven on beautiful summer days, maybe a 1000 miles a year. With that in mind, I opted for the NO clearcoat on the far right. I figured if I didn't like it when I see them, I could always have him shot the satin on them. I pick them up this Wed after work.

Now I gotta start researching tires ...
