I'm swapping in a Evo III motor and it already has a TD04HL turbo on it (I believe it's a 15G). I wanted an Evo III 16G turbo before I blew my motor (that's why I'm swapping it), but after I found out that the Evo III motor I'm swapping in has a TD04HL turbo, I don't know what I should do! How much of a power difference is a TD04HL vs. Evo III 16G?

Im pretty sure the TD04HL is the 13G I just swapped one out for a 14b.

well did the evo3 not come with the evo3 16g? isnt that the whole point of the name? as well as the evo 3 exhausnt manifold? if you have a tdo4h turbo it sounds to me like u have an automatic usdm motor. no 4g63 came with a 15g that i know of. the auto was a 13g. the tdo4h housing is different from the tdo5h as well. sounds like you were lied too.

There are many TD04hl just like there are many TDO5's. There is TD04HL-9b, 13g, 13t, 15g, and 15t. I know the TD04HL-13g is off the jdm engine, also there are some 13t's on the 7 bolt jdm's. I'm not sure about the 15g, he should post a pic with the serial # to make sure its a 15g.

Thanks for the insight. I just noticed that this thing is SMALL compared to my new 14b.

Okay, well I guess the TD04HL ain't all that. How would it compare to the stock T25 turbo then? Is it more powerful than the T25 at least? If so, by how much? I want a Evo III 16G turbo, but running into money problems.

The td04hl turbo is available in a whole bunch of different JDM applications....it depends on the serial number you have... i Have the same engine it seems like the TD04HL S# 49189-02500 isnt a turbo with much information on... There are about 5 different TD04HL, just like there are 5 different TD05's and TD04's, they all ahve different specs and were used for different applications... this website may help with your serial number and checking where the engine came off of: http://www.melett.com/pdfs/MHI/Mhi TD04.pdf
Ps: you need acrobat to open the page, and for me...nope couldn't find my application...
I also read that a TD04HL for Saabs flows almost the same as a T-25...

If you swap the TD04HL for the EVOIII remember you might need larger oil lines and banjo bolts. I ran into that hassle. Also is the car an automatic or a standard? The smaller 13Gs were used on the autos and the 14Bs on the manuals.

Your gonna need new coolant lines, oil return lines, I believe the exhaust manifold and o2 housing is smaller also. Since your 2nd gen you might as well get a 2g install kit.

TD04HL came from a mitsu RVR. Its like a Honda CRV or Toyota Rav 4.
The engine is almost an Evo1 - Evo 2 engine.
ECU has an eprom that is programmed for 450cc injectors. Motsly are ATs AWD.
