car got low on oil, started tapping, put oil in, next day idler pulley exploded, threw timing, bent valves. took the head out, fixed valves, seals, and resurfaced, put back together. engine is still tapping. now im guessing it's the tappets(lifters, lash adjusters, whatever you wanna call it) but I'm not too bright on what things sound like in the car. I know it's not a piston knock, could it be rod knock? or just lifters?
what normally taps when low on oil?

Well if it was low enough to where you don't have much oil in the bottom end you could of done something down there. But you took the head off and I assume didn't see much wrong with anything. But drop the oil pan and check it out. It's kind of hard to diagnose your problem over text. Hopefully this is some what helpful!

well with hearing with my ear, I hear it the most by the cam sprockets. so that's why I figured it might be my lifters. ### you wouldn't be able to hear it a ton thru the valve cover, you would be able to hear it most by the cam gaskets. well that was my opinion LOL. would low oil damage the lifters to where they tap once oil is put back in? I thought lifters mainly only tapped if there was no lubrication or they were clogged. I should of cleaned em up when I had em out

At the very least, I would drain the oil and look for shavings. How low on oil were you? If the pick-up tube sucked up air, there's a chance you spun a bearing. The only way to confirm a spun rod bearing is to drop the oil pan and tap on each rod.

FYI, this isn't an engine management topic. Thread moved.
