i have a chance to get this 1994 talon with a 1.8 sohc and the car seriously has like no power to it? can anyone tell me why or what i can do besides swap the motor to make it have some more balls?

try running a compression check, i did on my talon, and im running 2 80 60 60, i dont have fried piston rings, we are assumming that my exaust valves are gunked up and not closeing all the way, causeing loss of compression...u should be getting at least 90-120 on each cyl..

That is the exact same as my friends 1.8 eclipse, it is a real dog, but who wants to throw money at a $500 dollar car?

me and my friend are gonna tear apart the head and clean the valves im not looking forward to all the work...

With the SOHC it shouldn't be to much trouble, those engines have quite a bit more room in them compared to a 2.0 turbo.

1.8L.. so its a DL right? I find even my ES feels like it lacks power for the weight of the car.. 135hp at the crank in a 2750lbs car.. not so hot. you could strip the car down, lose as much weight as possible that would improve your power:weight ratio.

Stripping the car won't make that much of a difference.

To get more power out of a good condition 1.8l, really the only things you can do is improve the airflow by replacing the intake and exhaust, or build a turbo kit for it. :sneaky:
