Well, you all know about the bad economy in the US right now. I just got home and was reading my work email and me along with all other contract employees are losing are jobs. The hospital I work for is laying people off left and right and now they are getting rid of me. I have been there all most a year along with all the other guys. We all got hired at the same time. Now we all get cut loose at the same time. I don't know what I am going to do.:cry::cry:

Man thats a bad deal i hope you find a new job soon asap!! Its seems hard for everyone to get a job because seem like everything is closing or just dont need anyone to hire.

I asked my boss for a raise and I got denied. Now I am no a man. I am 19 and go to school and live at home. I make 8 bucks an hour, in Illinois minimum wage ent up to 7.75 in july.

Now I have been there for 3.5 years. First paycheck job and I am always on time and work every Fridday-Sunday 4 till 10+ and then regular week days. I got one raise, 25 cents above min. wage, went I was 16 when I moved from phones to the kitchen where I make pizzas. I is very busy and you have to think quick on your feet. And he can't even give me the what 50 cent raise. I am beyonod broke with having me trans rebuilt and school.

Now he goes to some track in his 6 911s and races every sunday, you cant afford to help me out. I heard gas went back up to 4.60 tonight. I guess its good my talon is downa nd i ride my mountain bike everywhere.

I would project a hospital to be fairly recession-proof. What I mean is people will always get hurt. A bad economy won't change that, along with death, eating, paying tax, and using gas.
Weird, maybe it was something else. Don't worry, there are other jobs out there. If you said you were at a hospital, use what I said above. You obviously have a skill and knowledge in that area so just go to another hospital.

Well I am not a nurse or a doctor or anything. I am in IT. They are having like a 1.5 million in budget cuts for the IT department right now.

Well hold on tight guys. I have always been chastised on this site for my views on the economy, but I guess I am right more than I am wrong. Its going to get a lot worse than better. Right now you also have WAMU, AIG coming close to the crapper. BOFA also has a huge exposure to mortage debt.

Unfortunately the quickest way for the economy to go up is if people stop defaulting on their mortages and people to buy the extra surplus of houses up. The problem with that is that cash flow is low right now for banks and many are facing eminent doom. Only 2 of 5 of the financial heavyweights are still in business and noone knows the exposure that they have. Goldman Sachs just announced the worst quarter in their history.

So I hope you guys saved when I told you guys to. There is also a high probability that if a bank goes under FDIC will not be able to payout. FDIC insures over a trillion dollars but only has about 50 billion to pay out with. Something like BOFA goes under we are all screwed.

All we can do is hope for miracles and best of luck for everyone.

What are you talking about?! Bush said that we are not even close to recession. The economy is in great shape and jobs are growing. ROFL What a bunch of BS lies!

It's sad when he himself does not want to admit that our economy is falling apart.

New World Order/Amero anyone?

I work a hospital as well and its not nearly as recession-proof as one would think. We just laid off 85 people(which is a lot, its not a huge hospital) and a good number of those people were RN's. If hospitals are not laying people off Im sure for the most part they are not hiring. I tried to transfer over to a closer hospital and there was nothing aside from a couple night shift rn positions open. Its a scary time for everyone.

I am looking for a new job now. Hopefully I can find one soon. I wish everyone the best and hope this dose not happen to any of you.

There is plenty of blame to go around, I wouldn't blame the government though. If you want someone to blame start with your neighbor and then about every 3rd person you meet on the street. The simple truth of it all is that this situation was caused by people who didn't play by the rules. People went out and bought homes they couldn't afford with loans they couldn't repay and gained equity with the value of their house increasing, 5 years later they had 15% equity in their homes so they decided to take a second mortgage which paid for every cent they had put into their loans so far, sounds like a pretty frickin good deal if you get it but where is the common sense?

Where did the 10% down standard go? Now people complain if they have to put 2% down and it just stupid. People who played the game and took big risks won here, they got to stay in nice homes for 10 years without paying a dime and living the good life, now that they've been caught they can just file for bankruptcy and go on without a debt in the world. The rest of us are the ones that got hosed though, now everyone gets to pay to bail out banks, financial institutions and private citizens and if there is anything to blame the government for that is exactly it.

Instead of blaming Bush for our problems lets try to help personal responsibility make a comeback since for the last 15 years or longer its been afk on a bathroom break, I'm starting to think it fell in and drowned.

Oh and variable rate loans are never a good thing for the long term, stay away from them like the plague.

these same people that took these loans and got to far in debt were mostly covering thier debt with credit cards.we are in alot of trouble.iI consider myself fortunate my house is paid for all my cars are paid and toys are paid for we have about $800 out one one card mostly if i can't pay for it i do not get it.so i don't have the largest tv or newest car on the block but i sleep well at night.Things are going to get worse:notgood:

To say that the government should have any blame attributed to it is missing the root of the problem. This is a matter of individuals not having enough common sense to fill a thimble and banking institutions failing to properly assess risk (the thimble thing again). Neither the Bush administration nor the Democratic congress should have this blame placed at their feet. As I said earlier, the only blame the government holds is for bailing out private citizens and giving out stimulus checks to people that don't even pay taxes. Robin Hood may have been neat to me as a child but now his principles smell pretty rotten. If you really must have a scapegoat why don't you start with Bill Clinton who was the person behind the wheel when most of the banking deregulation was passed, I guess his cigar box wasn't the only thing that smelled fishy in his office.

I also think the guy you linked to is full of crap and extremely biased plus he writes for a British news service for a British audience. When he uses a discussion of economics to bring up as a big a list of failures as possible to lay at Bush's feet without acknowledging anyone elses part in the problems he really is no better than moveon.org or the Huffington Post.

Pay for what you buy when you buy it and don't buy things you can't afford. If you have a credit card keep it paid off and only use it to the extent that you have actual cash to back it up. This is what I've been taught all along and its pretty simple to see that this sort of spending on a large scale would have saved a lot of people a lot of hassle.

Thank god I work for my brother in law's family.
7.50 and hour baby! And I get to choose the times I work.
Tool and Die ftw. And I'm only 16.

i work for an Oil and Gas Company we laid off 7 of our 20 man team here in PA...

Read what I said....to have no blame at all...come on...seriously...?

I agree, this is a major factor

Neither the Bush administration nor the Democratic congress should have this blame placed at their feet.
Seriously.....no really....seriously??
Ya know I'd post something here to back up my asserstions, but I don't know if you'd really listen...so how bout you give me some sources you can trust and I go find some articles from them....as long as I trust them too....

If you really must have a scapegoat why don't you start with Bill Clinton who was the person behind the wheel when most of the banking deregulation was passed, I guess his cigar box wasn't the only thing that smelled fishy in his office.
I'm sure you are refering to this.
Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
As noted in the text, banks were doing what this had allegedly said was illegal for some time.....

You are entitled to your opinoions...but I'm surprised that you think he's full of crap when he points out the very fact of the repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, something you state is part of the problem.
I would argue that he's writing for a global audience as well....

Pay for what you buy when you buy it and don't buy things you can't afford.
Seems pretty logical, but not all cases of using credit fall into the buying of tangible goods
Sometimes the credit is the only thing that can help you at times of crisis when finiancial hardships come into play. I've seen it and been in it first hand.

If you have a credit card keep it paid off and only use it to the extent that you have actual cash to back it up. This is what I've been taught all along and its pretty simple to see that this sort of spending on a large scale would have saved a lot of people a lot of hassle.
Not everything works this way, unless you have say a mill in the bank, which I don't think most dsm'ers do.... :)
And this seems pretty simple until you run into some hardship, then you'll find out first hand that not everything works out the way you want or think it should...

Sadly what a lot of this mess comes down to is good ole fashion greed....but seriously....no Gov involvement...

Man I fell your pain, I am also unemployed for about a few weeks now.
Good news though, So I got two job offers one job pays $7.50/hr Working from 8am to 8pm monday-saturday, the other job pays about $9.00/hr working only 25hrs a week.
What job should I take?

hell, ive been looking for a job for about for month and I thought I had one hooked, applied got emailed to call did that and got alil interview and they said that theyll forward my info to the manager....the next day I get a email saying they dont want me.....wtf why even bother saying your hiring? its BS really, especially with most business owners they see the economy and how bad it is right now but they still go ahead and lay off people just so they can make more profit.....o well : / im 17 and live at home with my mommy and daddy LOL

and to boostngsx good luck gettin another job :)

I work in IT too and one of our major clients are affected by the current economy. Luckly we made some internal adjustments right before this mess started to happen and are managing to run lean and mean.
