Takes time to start?

So I have a 1990 talon tsi and when I try to start it up it will turn over and crank but dies immediately. It does then about 20 times then it will will crank and run longer but die. Then eventually it will keep itself running. Any ideas?

this may help check the coolant temp sensor.

Agree : Coolant temp sensor. It's prob have opened up where it can't talk to the ECU. It's making the ECU think that the water temp is already warm thus will not send a rich mixture to ensure cold start procedures, but use the warm lean mixture settings.

It could also be no fuel pressure do to leaky fpr, injector, or fuel pump check valve. Pressure should stay there for days after engine is shut off.
