I have a 97 spyder with the 2.4 automatic. The car warms up quick temp gauge comes right up. The problem is it takes forever to shift into overdrive, litterally 15 minutes of driving before it fully shifts into overdrive. By then im to work so i thought, maybe its not warming up completely and going into the learn mode. so i changed coolant temp sensor and thermostat, same thing what else can i look for? changed filter and fluid twice.

Could be that the OD button and associated wires aren't making the connection to the tranny to tell it to go into OD, or the connection itself to the tranny has a problem with not making a clean contact.

Side question: when was the last time you boiled/cleaned out the radiator, for the section that the tranny fluid flows through could have some issues..

Been to a tranny shop with this problem to see what they have to say?

..just some ideas to look into..

Good luck-DSM

just bought the car not long ago so havent boiled out side of the radiator. and the od button works all of the time, not saying its still not the cause of it, its like it shifts into 4th gear, but then after a while of driving the rpms drop off another 3-400. if you going while its cold the rpms will rise if you hit the gas but stay in 4th gear. after a while of drivingwhen the rpms drop off if you hit the gas a little the rpms dont move you just feel the torque. really hard to explain but thats the best i can do do sorry

Hows the trans fluid look? What color is it and is it at the cold fill line?

I know the turbo cars a/t are all electronically controlled and the tcu will actually wait a bit for the trans fluid to get up to temp before the shift into fourth. BUT it shouldn't be that long of a wait. I'm talking about shifting points being later. Cold car, my o/d wont hit until 3k rpm (under little throttle)
