Take a look at my head please.

Pulled off my valve cover as part of my current project of TLC for this now 20 year old car. The pictures show what I found. I've owned several DSMs now, but this is the first one I've really had the time and money to work on myself. If anyone can let me know what I'm looking at and possible remedies, I'd very much appreciate it. I already have an idea, but need more eyes on to verify.

Sludge deposits and varnish from the oil. Looks like it probably wasn't changed regularly. Some varnish and sludge is to be expected in a high mileage engine though.

Looks like dried oil sludge. Best way to fix that is to take everything apart and clean it in a parts washer, the entire engine.


Looks like the car has a lot of miles, and very few oil changes.

The previous owner had the car for 19 years but only put on 128k, it's completely stock, car fax shows some of the maintenance when it was done at a dealership, like the clutch. I have no way of knowing what the oil change intervals were or anything like that. And you guys just confirmed my suspicion. Thanks

If thats the head inagine the turbos center cartridge. Id try running some seafoam through the engine or even try what we sell ( not my choice) at my job is the bg performance oil change. Id does work just stinks horribly.

The car has already seen multiple sea foam treatments, both in engine, through intake, and fuel tank. At this point, my best option is to rebuild it. The t-25 was shot, that's what really started my project of taking apart to replace pieces.

Good thing is that I found it before any real damage occurred.
