I have a question about the turbo that I want to install on my 1995 gsx, I have a header, wastegate (not tooo positive on exact size), and an A/R .50 T3/T4 turbo sitting in wait. Now the question is what parts will I need to install it, like the lines, intercooler, piping, oo and I need gaskets too, And I can manage finding a header gasket myself LOL. Any help is appreciated. A list would be awesome.

ps the turbo in the car right now is the stock 1g 14b turbo along with the 1g bov

Keep your 14b, you don't want to put that eBay turbo on your car.

If your profile is up to date, you don't have any supporting mods for a larger turbo.

Its a turbonetics turbo, and my thread is about what I need for the install and the engine to hold it, not just the turbo stuff, and again any help is appreciated :)

I guess that would make sense LOL since the header is xspower too, Anyway, Im definetly still going to install it since my 14b has seen better days, so rather than bash, does anyone actually have relative information to the question?

it is not bash. its jst good advice..
you'll need injectors, fuel pump, apfr, etc..
NOt worth it. especially on an eBay turbo

Look just to be real if your lucky you will get excellent performance out of that turbo for a month or so LOL maybe. Then you will be back at step one with nothing but a shit load of fuel for a blown turbo. Take the advice given and sell that thing to a honda boy or something.

Ok, I took the advice and I went ahead and sold the kit, SO, now my question would be a good start for supporting mods and what is a good and relative prices on a turbo kit, And another question would be if there is a side mount that be effective enough for said turbo, I want a slight sleeper ;-) Would love to get some advice on this, thanks again!

First of all, welcome to the forums. Second, these guys are giving you some very good advice. I recognize the car because I work on base. Its a small world, especially in the DSM world. I drive a Gray 97 TSI AWD. There arent any others on base so if you have seen it. Its me. I actually recall giving you the proverbial wave one time. I give a heads up to all of the DSMers.

Anyway, Ill help you all you need. Dont let the tech posts fool you. I dont post on here very much. Ive been a member a long time. Back in the day, this site was though of as the ricer/noob site. Now its the largest, and one of the few left that still cater to our cars. Just about anything you google about these cars comes up with something from this site. Ive owned many DSMs, a few of them I have bought off the showroom floor. So Ive been driving/modding these things for about 17 years :thumb: This Talon is my new project. I just got it, cheap.

Like I said, these guys are giving you the best advice for sure. Being new to this car, there is a lot to learn. The turbo that you wanted to install is junk, straight up. its not worth the box it was shipped in. It will fail very quickly. I dont know what you are trying to achieve, the motor you have is good for 450HP easily. Im giving you a low figure, because chances are you have some mileage on it.

The 14B properly tuned is a 12 second turbo. 16G and 20G are about as far as you want to go on the stock bottom end. 14B you dont really need much. 16G you are going to at least need some injectors and a new fuel pump. and with that you are going to need something to control the fuel, because now you have gone past the limits of your stock fuel computer. If you are going to buy injectors anyway, go larger. You can, for the most part always take fuel out in tuning.

Of course even with a 16G you are going to need a new clutch. If you have the stocker in there, you can hang that up too. I just put a new one in mine. Its not really hard, but you aren't going to do it in that parking lot. Same advice with the clutch, go big, especially in an AWD car. ACT2600 or something similar. The only thing I have in my car is modded clutch and a built transmission, because I bought it with a bad tranny.

Hang up the idea of the side mount intercooler above a 16G, bigger turbo chargers "heat soak" the intercooler. Which means hot turbo air going in, hot turbo air coming out. The intercoolers only purpose is to cool the charge air. Which you cant effectively do with a small unit.

So what your looking at depends on what you want to do. 14B, you probably have everything you need, 16G, injectors and a bigger fuel pump. something to control the new fuel. 20G, you need all of the above and a front mount. 1G Blow off valve is good. You need a real boost gauge and a boost controller. The 2G DSM manifold is good enough for the 20G. You can trade yours in or buy a ported one. but again, this is all going to depend on what you want to do. If you want over 450HP, your looking at a new bottom end. And these numbers are conservative. Im sure someone will chime in "I run 500HP daily on my stock bottom end" Well you probably can, but if its not tuned properly, you will blow it up.

So again, if you need any help you can send me a PM and I can meet up with you. I work on the hill. Im in the reserve now, But I work almost everyday. The only other advice I can give you is to do all of your maintenance first. Do the slave and master cylinder and clutch fork with the clutch job. Dont cut corners, when replacing anything on the engine USE OEM parts. If you dont know when the last time the timing belt was changed, you need to do that. and of course with that comes the water pump, and gaskets. If you need to replace the clutch and timing belt, Its a whole lot easier to just pull the motor.

Hit me up, Im not doing anything today if you want to get together and shoot the shit.

Looks like you noticed the backdrop in the picture, but yes those were the two turbos I was looking at as a possiblity. It definetly helps with the info that you posted, I wish I would have noticed the reply earlier, I'm on mids and was passed out after a long day. My friend has a storage unit at the place right off base with a hoist and a good amount of tools, I would do it at the hobby shop, but they charge a good amount to have a car stored there. I may have seen your car too LOL

So if I'm going to have to get a fmic, I was definetly thinking of avoiding the usual gynormous core that every one seems to get, just a modest sized one is fine with me. As for pulling the engine, I could probably use a small rebuild on the engine anyway. O yea, I have just over 130k on the car.

Will

Based on the times I've seen the car parked there. I figured you were on mids. I worked the line for 11 years on active duty. I've taken a back seat now and I just have a desk job. Much better. I completely understand about day sleeping. I spent 8 years on swings. And I hear you about the base hobby shop. They are a rip off. When I was at Cannon it was $1 an hour for a bay and $2 an hour for a lift. And $30 a month to store your car outside. So this place is waaay high. I changed my oil and rear end fluid and it was like $8. $5 for the lift and $3 for an enviro fee or something, For 15 minutes of work. I wanted to change my carrier bearings but I'm afraid they are gonna charge me like $30 just for the lift.

Anyway, with us being on different shifts it's hard to meet up during the week. So if I see you out and about. I'll just wave you down. If you have a minute. We can bs.

Also with the front mount intercooler. The larger the core the cooler the air the more power you make with the same setup.

And the easiest way to do a rebuild is to buy a block and crank for a few hundred dollars get the pistons and rods. Have the entire bottom end built. Then you eliminate down time and you can pull the old motor, swap the head put new everything else on. Change the clutch all in one day. Then you have the old bottom end you can resell for someone else to do the same thing.

Gregg

Well that definetly sounds like a good idea, I guess I could get a fairly monster intercooler if I were to build the bottum end and swap the head and a clutch is def on the menu. As I am in the noob forum, I can tell you that I know of the ways of DSM, but I think there's someone that can help on this, which would be you LOL. Have any sites and or companies for the block and what not? Also, as for now, my car has a little click going on, sounds like it needs a valve job or something, but I'm not really sure, have any ideas?

Will

Hey man, I know you from the dorms.. I got the white spyder and black gsx thats in your parking lot literally 50 from your car. You bought that turbo, mani and 38mm wastegate from my buddy Josh. I know for a fact he bought it off ebay when he was deployed last year. What these guys is giving you is real good advise. I think I recal saying to you one time that you would need a lot of fuel mods to run that .50 trim. Im in the desert now but when I get back Ill be throwin my motor together for my black car. Youd be welcome to come chill at my house n learn about these cars.

*Limegrntaln* I think I have seen your car around base. Looks pretty sick.

Of course even with a 16G you are going to need a new clutch. If you have the stocker in there, you can hang that up too. I just put a new one in mine. Its not really hard, but you aren't going to do it in that parking lot

Also I just did replace my clutch in the parking lot about a month ago! ;) Security forces didnt like that too much considering it was the second time they cought me with the tranny out in the parking lot. I snapped a pic of it, if your a member of "my dsm is jackstand ballin" on facebook theres a pic on there!

i have a complete turbo setup im looking to sell

heres a link
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/los...66-want-bolt-400-hp-20g-turbo-setup-sale.html

nothing there is cheap ebay knock stuff

Also a set of 660's-720's injectors and a re-wired wally 190LPH woul let you take this setup to 24psi... no need for an AFPR

i ran this turbo setup just like that. only reason im selling is because im going bigger. the turbo was just rebuilt and will be inspected by a local turbo shop before its sold, also i can have an elbow welded what ever direction you like on the compressor cover

If you want a quick sleeper, I'd say get a Supra side mount intercooler, a 16g turbo, some bigger injectors (maybe some 660's), a fuel pump, a fuel pressure regulator if you get a 255 fuel pump, boost gauge, datalogger, downpipe & cutout with a stock cat back. Get an S-AFC or something else to tune with & a wideband. If E85 is available where you are then I'd say go for some 1000cc injectors and get DSMLink to tune with.

First do all the maintenance and make sure your engine is healthy by doing a leakdown test.

There are so many places to get work done. I dont know of too many I would trust with the motor around here. I know FFTEC does EVO/DSM they are in Union City. I dont know if they actually do machine work on site or they send it out. I know they can get it done though. I would also recommend finding a place that will install the main cap dowels. This motor, if assembled incorrectly will fail in a few hundred miles. And the clicking is the lifters, its very common in these vehicles. So much that they have revised lifters. They sell them but they never offered to replace existing cars. So far as I know, its just noisy and has never been known to cause any problems. You can get revised ones at various places for about $110 a set of 16.

Oh! Will+ Gregg, I forgot to mention since you two were on the subject of the hobby shop. Its 5$ an hour for a stall whether you use a lift or not. Plus they charge a little fee if they help you, also for the enviro fee. I know its 50$ for 10 days for an outside bay or 20$ a day if you dont do the 10 day "package." You have to pay that up front. I know this because in the last year Ive done that twice LOL. Ive been in there plenty Im sure these guys know me by first name. One of the guys has a pretty sick camaro and a 800+ hp drag car. Hope that kinda cleard a little up.

If E85 is available where you are

There is an E85 station right down the street from
The Chuck E cheese here in FF. :thumb:I would second the Supra side mount. But having owned 5 DSMs I will tell you that its never enough. You will get tired of a 16G. I've done it on all of mine. And always told myself I wouldn't. And I went bigger everytime. It's a waste of money to go small if you have bigger numbers in mind. It's funny that we mention smaller turbos because I know someone that just went 11.20 on a Big 16G. :thumb:

Anyway. There is a lot to learn. And I'm sure well be seeing Tom once he gets back.

For sure! Ive already got Wiseco pistons, Eagle rods, acl bearings ect.. All Im waitn on is some money to buy cams n springs n Ill be puttin the gsx together. You guys would be welcome to come hang out and/or help. In the case of Will, learn!

Yea I think I'm going to go with the 20g eventually but probably get all my supporting mods for it like the fuel pump, injectors, boost controller, and going with a new bottom end and swapping the head, I tried to reply earlier when I woke up but the forum was down on my computer and my iPhone, was it like that for anyone else?

Will

Yeah it's been like that for months. I tried to get on last night for a few hours. No dice. I don't know what I'm doing awake now. I'm off today. But I have class. So I don't get to vedge all day. I have a test at noon.

And Tom, are you assembling yourself? When I do mine I'm sending it off and getting a built short block back. Not messing with CW had it 3 times already.

20G is a good way to go. I've had a few. Always ended up going bigger. But it's good for 6 months. In my case it lasted 2. FP Green/Red. I wouldn't go any smaller than a 3065 for me. I'm probably going to settle around GT35.

This has my name all over it.

Forced Performance Turbochargers: FP HTA GT3586R Ball Bearing Turbocharger

And for the bottom end. Wiseco and Eagle is a good combo. I dont know how far I wanna take things. So I'm going Ross and Pauter. Or Ross and Carillo. Probably Magnus bottom end. 2.0 Liter, I trust Magnus for the 11,000 RPM bottom ends.

What sized injectors you think I should snatch up. I'm looking at 860cc at the moment, and a 255 LPG walbro. I'm also looking at a boost controller should fit in a pod, oo and I saw a thread about a fuel manager creation by yourself LOL. I found a bottom end for like 1700 I think it was.
