Ok first off I did a search....I want to know the pros and cons of these turbos when compared to each other, BY PEOPLE WHO HAVE USED THEM. I looking to map out my upgrade path ofr my 95' a/t gsx, and I am interested in the t28 killer but also the big t28. Anyone who has had either or both please let me know what your thoughts were, spool off bosst power, dyno numbers(not very important) and track times(also not very inportant). I plan on running stock boost on the street and occasionally run from 15-17psi or more with tune. Lets get this clear I am looking for a mild upgrade nothing more, and please dont compare these turbos to a bigger better turbo. Thanks for the replies...

I have not heard much good about the T28 killer so I wouldn't consider it. I had/have an FPT28 and it was fine for a streetable upgrade from the T25 and will suit your needs easily. It spools up almost as fast as the T25 but has better midrange and better higher rpm performance. The only other turbo I would consider in your performance range is the EVOIII 16G as you will get better overall (a little slower spool-up but better top end) performance from it over a T28 but the downside is that it isn't a direct bolt-on (still not very hard to do) as you need a kit.

I have the FP Big T28. A couple of reasons I went with this over the Evo III.
1) I like a fast spool (you probably aren't going to lose traction if you keep it at low boost)
2) It looks stock (for CA smog that is great)
3) It has great potential for a clean bolt on. I *actually* spoke with Forced Peformance about the claimed 11.82 full weight 99 gsx ( I think that was the time) What they had on the car was pretty much stage 1 & 2 of the tuning guide :thumb: No Nos or built engine etc.
Downside is that more power could be had with the Evo III and they are comparable in cost. I got my for $800 shipped and ported. For about two minutes I regretted my turbo choice until I got in my car and was just street driving. (I am a boost whore) I really like how streetable this turbo is. If you want mild this is your turbo. [OT] I even gained gas mileage [/OT]

I run the FPT28/28. According to DSMLINK, I laid down a repeatable 345 w.h.p. in 10*F temps on 20 psi pump gas just the other night. Thats with every bolt on except an Intake manifold and 3" exhaust. I hit 15 psi around 2900-3200 rpm on a T28, depending on tune and outside air temps. I've had one for 60,000 miles/~5 years and no problems yet.

FPBig28's are $719 now brand spanking new, flow rate is max 37-38lbs. The T28killer is $850 with a good core, not even a new turbo. That turbo is also rated max at 550 cfm or 38 lb/min. The FPBig28 with YOUR core is $599 from FP if you want to reuse cores. Your saving $250 if you reuse your core and $131 if you purchase brand new from FP. Based on the reliability record, performance record and much lower purchase price, I'd buy the FPBig28 over the T28killer in a heartbeat. If the EVOIII 16g is thrown into the mix, I'd buy that instead.

I love my Big28! :thumb:
Mild porting (eliminate step), 550's, 190 fuel pump, Hahn big smic, hard pipes, 1g bov, 3" turbo back exhaust, 17 psi WG actuator, SAFC, pocketlogger, auto trans with shift kit. It's a great step up from the t-25. It spools exactly the same, but has a real nice kick in the ass midrange to redline, and part throttle :D

I haven't been to the track with this current list of mods, but I expect a definite improvement over 15.0 with the t-25. I'm tuned pretty rough currently, but I hope to make it to Turbotrix for some dyno tuning this spring. Gas mileage is great, ~ 22 mpg mixed driving.

I specifically chose this turbo for the ease of installation (hint: connect the stock oil feed line to the new turbo first, then bolt it in). I didn't like all the extra plumbing required for a 16g. I chose FP because of their reputation.

if you honestly plan on running stock boost and only 15-17 occasionally, get an fpbig28. Also, the t28 killer uses a BIG16g wheel which isnt as efficient as even the small 16g. If the efficiency rating on the big28 is similar to that of a small 16g, then its a better turbo all around than a t28 killer.

yeah I had a ported and clipped b16g and it had great top end and all and made great power on my old gst. But I want more torque, low end and mid range, because t28s put out more torque less hp. Being as though my auto doesnt have the same gust and initial punch my old 5 speed did I need a much quicker spooling turbo. I wanna run stock boost for gas mileage and high boost for fun and random track days(very rare). Im not looking to break any records, or have killer top end just a awd a/t car with some guts. I figured these as the only two turbos as they are direct bolt on, flow more then twice as much as the t25, hold boost to redline, spool very quickly, and make good torque when compared to a equally 16g(not as much hp or top end...)....all these being VERY important on the gutless low end a/t dsm's have. I think I may go with a fp big t28 ported, for more then 100 less shipped then a t28 killer unported and not shipped Ill get 550cfms of bolt on fun. Now comes the hard part of saving for the damn thing.
