My transfer case started leaking right after my tranny change. There is a small puddle after I back out of a spot after sitting there for a while. Crawled under the car today and saw that it was leaking near the rear yoke. (I used mobil 1 ls 75-90 synthetic gear oil in the tranny and t-case). I was wondering if this would be covered under the recall? And would a mitsubishi dealership be able to work on a talon?
Heres some pics-

I am going to fill it back up so I can drive the car to and from work for two more days. The dealership isn't open on the weekends.

Called chrysler and they said the t-case recall was done in 2002. And they would be happy to look at my car and asses the leak and the cost involved for me. :(

I know it's coming from the rear of the t-case. And can't the recall be done more than once if the leak comes back?

Don't go to Chrysler, unless you feel like being screwed. Looks like your yoke is leaking, the VFAQ is your friend:

Transfer case removal

Not sure if the part # is in the article but you can purcase what is called a "recall kit" from Mitsu. It includes a new yoke & a universal pressued in. Cost is around $32 form mitsuparts.com

Wouldn't my t-case potentially be damaged though if it was run without fluid thus creating another danger somewhere down the road?

EDIT
- Just called chrysler and they said any dealership is supposed to replace it even if it goes bad again. They just said go to another dealership if one refuses. Nice huh?

Mine was already done but how do you know if they didn't just top off the fluid and not install the new yoke. They inspected my transfer case and said it was still under the recall because its a safety issue it has to be covered for the rest of the cars life.

Is there a recall for a 92 TSi AWD M/T? Because i have the same problem. Haven't fixed it, i just park on hills so it doesn't leak. If there is a recall on the 92 is it free? Sorry for jacking the thread.

Yes, there should be. Just give chrylser a call with your vin handy to find out. I think it will still leak while your driving it too.

there is a very good chance that the drive shaft is leaking ,right where the universal joint makes on to the yolk .there is a cap there which leaks ,the dealer only put rtv on it .good to check ,would have saved me a bunch of money if I would have seen it . I replaced the seal and the seal wasn,t the problem

Id say follow the VFAQ write up and do it yourself. At least you will know it was done right. I can tell you that the dealership most likely will just replace the seal and send you out the door. When my recall was done few years ago they didn't cover the plug in the yoke with RTV. Even if they did for you, im sure they wouldnt let the RTV dry up more than a few hours let a lone a full 24 like stated in VFAQ. I just did my yoke seal 2 days ago. It wasnt leaking but i had it off for a clutch job so i figured why not. I though getting the RTV in to the yoke side plug would suck but i ended up taping a straw to the end.:thumb:
Last shop i let work on my explorer not only fuged up timing(4.0 SOHC=bent valves) but when i finally got i back a month later for a 2 day job (balance Chain) I drove it a whole winter here in Alaska before i found out they shoved like 4 shop rags under my air filter and didnt bother plugging up my block heater:beatentodeath: There on out i do all my work unless i know who's doing it.

So would it be safe to drive if just the drive shaft was leaking? I don't understand.... I didn't think driveshafts were filled with fluid?

^^^^Not to be rude but did you even look at the link daren_p posted up?
If you would have spent the time reading through it then you would understand where freeman is referring to. If anything just scan down to the last pic then you will see. That is where i was refer to using a straw to get the RTV in there good.

No I'll admit i didn't. I saw it and thought to myself, I already know how to remove the t case why would i need to look there.

Thanks for the help guys! Car goes into the shop on monday.

As others have mentioned, the recall is valid for the life of the vehicle regardless of how many times the recall has been performed. Also, if you take it to the dealership without any fluid in there, they pretty much have to give you a brand new Tranfer Case because just replacing the seal won't fix whatever damage could've (and in your case most likely has) been done.
