anyone have any ideas on how to get the crankshaft nut off to change the balance shaft belt?

Use an impact or put a 17mm wrench on each camshaft and have someone hold them while you break lose the bolt on the crankshaft.

You shouldn't have to take the nut off. Just wrap the belt behind the crank plate.

You do need to take the crank pulley off though, thats 4-12mm bolts. To get those off, but a breaker bar on them and try and break them loose by slamming the breaker bar really hard and fast so the crank doesn't turn.

won't that put a lot of strain on the timing belt?

If you really want to take off the crank sprocket and bolt, it will put strain on the belt; but since you should be replacing that anyways, it shouldn't be a big deal. Just don't re-use it then.

I thought you were replacing it anyways? But like blackgsx said, after I thought about it, you dont have to take the bolt off. I dont have balance shafts so I have never done it before. :thumb:
