Winnipeg,
I recently bought a 92 talon:talon: tsi awd, it was my g.f's uncle's, he bought it brand new in 1992 from the dealership. He had stored it for most of it's life, and it's 100% original, and everything is ABSOLUTLY MINT! like unreal minty, not a hairline scratch, no rust, engin is unreal and not one aftermarket thing in it...it only had 89,000 km's and it had the timeing belt changed on the recal and has been kept very well (never winter driven).

But anyways, he owned it Since day 1..and since day 1 when he had it, it would grind if you shifted from 1st to 2nd over 4500-5000 rpm's...i've now heard it from 4-5 other people with 1992 or 1993 talon tsi awd's who have the EXACT same problem..they told me a few pointers to help such as an aftermarket blow off valve because it will help the rpm's drop quicker..and also a thick transmission oil to help the syncros slid together better.

To get to the point of this, i am looking to find what year DSM changed the gears/syncros and/or how the cut on them was..because i havn't heard of this problem with any '94 talons or new, and am wondering if DSM changed the gears or cut the syncros so they could mesh better together and avoid this problem completly. Because if there was a change, i'll take out the syncros, gear box what ever i have to out and put in a newer talons gears or syncros to hopefully fix the problem. Anyone have any comments or can help at all, please let me know, or e-mail me at [email protected] and let me know if u've had the same problem, or what i can do to change it. Thanks for reading this and i hope you guys/girls can help me out

I think the blow off valve in that car is fine. Its just the second generation (95-99) that suck shit.

Just so you know, do your maintaince.

That information isn't really relevant...He wasn't saying his BOV is screwed up, he said someone suggested he get a different one, in an attempt to help the RPM's drop quicker. Which I really don't think will help much, if at all.

Secondly, he didn't maintain the car improperly.

He did say it grinded from the factory, which means in that case it should have been taken back immeditaly as the warrenty should cover it. Anywho, since it wasn't the only real way to fix the problem would be to replace the synchros. While the transmission is ripped apart, might as well do a full rebuild replacing the bearings as well.

Any other "fix" is just a patch job.

Oh ya, the Maintenance is very much there..no worries about that..it's just that stupid gear problem, i HAVE to fix it asap so any tips to help me would be appreciated! and yea..i'm not too keen on the 95-99 generation either LOL!
