I couldn't really find a resource for this.
I know there have been part supersession over the years but I don't know why. This question came up because I'm doing a little trans work and I was sorting through my box of old crap and I came across MD742536 synchro ring. If memory serves 1, 3 and 4 rings in a 2g trans are identical and I guess you could say 2nd also if it's a single ring. This is the larger rings. This particular ring does not have 39 teeth but 3 sections of 8 centered on the key slots so it's missing a lot of teeth. I also have a 2nd gear with angled teeth for engagement instead of the symmetrical teeth under the synchro ring.
Anybody care to comment on these items? Why the changes? When did the changes happen if known? Is any part better than another? We have discussed to death early 3rd gear vs later, double cone synchros etc etc. It's these small changes I'm curious about.

Unfortunately I don't know what year this is from. It's from a 2ga style trans I bought.

I wanted to share with the group. Thats wh I didnt go to Tim directly. Even if you had the TSBs they don't say why something was done just if it will fit or not.

More on the subject. I went digging through more boxes. Took apart some more shafts. There are just small differences I see that I can't figure out what the difference is. For instance 2nd gear synchro. I've seen some that are physically thicker (taller?) than others. Since the action is from the key slot I don't see how this makes a difference. I think 1st may be the same on some years. Also I've taken apart sevearl intermediate shafts and all of them had the dot on the hub facing the 5th gear side not the clutch side as the manual states. I've measured the hub and I couldn't find and differences. I also don't see why they put different angles on some of the sleeves as we have seen over the years people flip 3rd and 4th sleeve over to get better teeth on 3rd. Anybody care to comment? TIm?
