Synchro of second gear bad......

I went to see a 91 AWD Talon with 86k on it yesterday. The guy said that the synchro of second gear is bad when you shift hard. What is the synchro.......does it make the gears goes into place?

If I buy this car, which he wants 4500 for, am I looking to spend 800-1600 for a tranny rebuild?

First of all that price seems kinda high IMO, for a 1st gen despite the low miles, and yea that sounds about right for a rebuild, in my old GS I spent about $1000 on a rebuild for my 3rd gear

I just bought a 91 with 64k on the car with a rebuilt motor and tre tranny for 2k. does this car have a ton of mods? just look in the newbie forum for "my new 1ga"

The car has a fmic, evo 3 16g, afc engine management, and turboback exhaust. But its got problems running with high idle and the car with wanting to stall after the rev but then catching itself.

He even told me he bought the car for 2500!!!!! And he expects to get back double what he bought it for?

I dont mean to hurt anyones feelings. But just because you put 5 k into mods doesnt mean its worth 5k more.

To answer your question, a synchro helps the gears align when shifting. This does seem like quite a bit of money for a car with bad synchros. If your set on the car though, I had bad synchros in my car for a year and a half, maybe two years. You just have to double clutch. An AWD DSM is fast enough to smoke all the kid's neons and cavaliers in high school even if you are double clutching.

Sentimentally it may, but you'll never get what you put in out of a car.

Thanks for that description........I may go look at the car again with someone to try and talk the price down but if i can't I'll just let this go.

synchros are extremely cheap tho if u have the know how..

and i agree with everyone, car deff overpriced
