I bought the 420a configured MS unit from symtech got it all wired in. I decided to do a test connection between the MS and my computer so I installed the serial to usb adapter and put the baud rate 115200 and brought the buffers down as low as they can go. Installed Tunerstudio and found that tunerstudio finds MSExtra Rel 2.1.0q firmware. The only close option for firmware in tunerstudio is MSExtra Rel 2.1.0p. A message pops up saying I need to select the correct .ini file, which is the "q", to connect correctly. Just wondering where I can get this .ini file or if some one has it if they could email it to me.

Any help would be appreciated!

You can find all of the various firmware releases here:

I guess I got the terms mixed up its the configuration file I need I looked through them and still didn't see the "q" that its asking for. Am I supposed to use the 2.1 file and then make my own?

So, you're asking for a suitable MSQ file? MS2/Extra 2.1.0d is the latest stable release of the MS2/Extra firmware. This MSQ file is configured for the 2.1.0d firmware:

Do you have anything special installed, like a P&H board for sequential fuel injection, that would require the alpha code? You might have a harder time finding an MSQ file for that, but there are still plenty of them out there. You can find the firmware here:

I ordered a Preconfigured unit from Symtech. Shouldnt have been anything fancy just the options they install from their website. The tunerstudio has the .ini file for the MSExtra Rel 2.1.0p, but tunerstudio detects that my ms unit is the MSExtra Rel 2.1.0q, and suggests I find the correct one. I bought the unit from Symtech so I wouldnt have to mess with flashing the unit. So do you think unless symtech has a configuration file I need I will have to flash down to the MSExtra Rel 2.1.0p so it can connect correctly with tunerstudio?

Flashing the ECU is a fairly common procedure... you'll have to do it sooner or later as new updates become available. If there's nothing wrong with the ECU and you're just upgrading to the latest version, you won't have to open the enclosure or anything. Simply choose "N" when the downloader asks if you're upgrading from the standard MS-II code (you're not).

I recommend downloading the MS2/Extra 2.1.0d firmware package, upgrading the firmware and your ECU and directing TunerStudioMS to use the .INI file in that package.

Ok so just incase anybody else has this problem, when you download the latest stable version "MSExtra Rel 2.1.0d" package and load the "megasquirt-ii.ini.ms2extra" .ini into Tunerstudio, the ECU Definition drop down menu will show "MSExtra Rel 2.1.0q"

So problem solved! I just wish all the software numbers and letters were explained a little more!

Thanks for all the help in figuring this out.
