well i need a winter car and i can get an 91 GXS auto cheap, but im not a big fan of autos. and im very good with working on cars i have done 5spd swap on a mustang, and a motorswap too. i can get a hold of the FWD 5spd tranny so could i use that, or can i only use a AWD 5spd tranny?? how hard would the swap be??i also have have a lift and power tools.

Ok I will make this as short and simple as possible.

You cannot use a FWD 5-speed trans, to swap out you're current AWD Auto Trans.
Reason being.. You have a All-Wheel Drive Car. The FWD trans cannot have a transfer case, so therfor you would not be able to use the function of the car, AWD.

Swapping out a Auto for manual is a little harder in a DSM than a mustang. I have helped with a Auto to Manual Conversion on a Mustang, and in comparison, its like apples to oranges.

If you purchased the car for a winter beater, I would leave it be. The time/money spent on converting it would be a waste in my eyes. By the time you were done it would probably be summer again. :thumb:

This type of question gets asked alot and usually you will get a reply saying " sell it, buy a gsx, start from there " ; I agree with that, less hassle and trouble and work.

There is also another possibility , you can put your current car back to stock for a nice daily driver, get a manual gsx swap the mods... etc.... that would be the ultimate heaven ;D
