Hello out there . I want someone to point in the right place for the info on how to swap a motor I have a 4g63 and about to buy the motor for it . But I am looking for a site that shows the swap step by step . I want to do it right this is going to be my first time doing it . I am going from my DD 420 Eclipse to talon 4g63 this is for a 2g i found the 1g but not the 2g :hellyeah:

The Swap is not feasable, too much time, effort, and money.

Basically the 420A is on the wrong side.

A better swap would be to find a wrecked Evo 8, 9 and swap the guts out. engine trans, and management. custom axles and mounts will be needed.

Since the Orientation of the Motor/Trans from the Evo is closer to the Orientation of the 420A.

*Edit* the 1G 4g63, is easily swappable for a 4G63T because they are basically the same.

Use the search button. You will find what 4G63tc has commented is 100% correct.

What are you asking?

Are you saying you bought a 2G Talon that had a 4G63 in it and you are about to buy a 4G63 engine and want to know how to install it?

Don't. Plain and simple. It will take more time and money than you can imagine. And I hope you know how to weld, cause you'll be doing a lot of it. Keep the 420 and use the 4g as a toy

AWD? FWD?

Essentially the steps are:

Open hood.
take out old engine.
put new engine in.

Engine swaps are NOT hard. Just label all your connectors if you haven't done it before and organize your nuts and bolts. Get a haynes manual and go to town. It might not sound helpful, but it's really the best way to go at it IMHO

Its FWD I have the manual I just do better with color pictures and video . Once I see it done I can do it myself . This is going to be my last big project . I promised My soon to be wife that I will stop after this .

As T is for Turbo said - it's easier than you might think. Organization is key, especially for the first time. Baggies and labels for bolts if you're worried, Masking tape and sharpie to label connector if you need it. Obviously, get your bolt-ons and other 'stuff' out of the way first before you start getting overwhelmed....all intake parts, IC parts, battery, etc. Box that off to the side so things don't get mixed...again...baggies and sharpie to label if you need to for bolts, fasteners, hoses, and what not.

Suggestion - the more room you have the better...and...why not take the opp. to tuck wires and paint the bay? Remove everything up front...bumper, fender, bolt-ons, radiator, etc., etc. Remove engine. Clean bay. Prep Bay. Clean up the wires at some point. Paint Bay. (While all this is going on get anything you want powder coated before assembly) Drop in replacement motor. Put everything else back together. Several build threads on here show this very process.

Just to clarify...I'm guessing you should have never mentioned the 420a at all as its not pertinent here and just got folks confused.

Assumption is you have a 2G FWD 4G63T that has a bad motor. You have another motor for that same car (again a 4G63T) to drop in it. Thus, you want to pull one and put the other one in? If so...steps above should serve.

If you're looking to swap the 4G63 into the car with the 420a, you really just shouldn't.

For a basic mind step it's rather simple, just keep track of the bolts and where everything goes. You can try to unbolt it from the tranny and lift it out or pull the motor and tranny out together and reinstall as one piece. It all is held together by bolt's so it wont be rocket science. I would pick up manual and read up.

If it's going into another 4g63 shell it should be simple. I myself have never done a 4g63 swap but done many other engine swaps and they key to all of them is remembering what bolts go where, routing engine harness properly, and remembering small details like body grounds and such. When I take out my engine to rebuild, I will pull it out with tranny.

There is a really good build thread on dsmtalk of a guy who swapped a 4g63 into his 420a engine bay. I can't remember the link but if you searched it, you would find it. It's takes A LOT of welding and A LOT more work than worth it.

Swapping a 4g63 with a 4g63 is basically plug in play, depending on some variables ofcourse. FWD or AWD, turbo or non turbo. Just mark every connections with tape on both sides of the connectors, make some notes that you wont loose. And take advantage of the engine being out the bay to clean it up a bit.

I would pull the engine and trans together, it will be less of a headache in the long run. As others have said, just label everything and try to remember where things go. Take some pictures along the way of how things come apart and where they came from for reference when you put it back together.

Also, good luck giving up on working on cars (or projects). Once you get it running, I would be willing to bet you will get the itch to mod it some more. A project car running or not will always be a work in progress for most because when you get something done that you wanted to, you will almost always find something to do next.

Hopefully your mechanical skills are better than your grammar. Just take your time and label everything.
