suspension problem, ANY IDEAS?

i have a 96 GST and there is a problem with my rear suspension. everytime i go into a bump my car sways and i hear this knocking noise like something is loose on my left rear section. i've taken my car to local shops and they don't know what it is. has anyone else had this problem. any replies are greatly appreciated.

Not to make you sound dumb, but I looked at a car for a guy and the knocking noise was shit in his hatch. My advise is to get it up in the air, so you can shake it. See if you can get the noise to come back and if so try to see where it is and while your there inspect everything! I'm sure thats not what you wanted to hear but its going to be pretty hard for anyone on here to know exactly what this noise is without seeing or hearing it themselves.

there are peopel that go to those two that know about specific stuff, especial wret down in the suspension forum

but check all your bolts for torque and make sure nothign wiggles around

I also have this same problem only mine's on the right side of the car. When I listen for it really carefully, it almost sounds like it's coming from behind the speaker in the back and it only happens if I corner real hard to the left. Satan said it was my shocks so I replaced them and the noise is still there. Let me know if you ever find out what it is. I'd like to know.

With the noise and the reaction over bumps you described, I would have to guess the problem is with the shock as well. Take it off the car, remove the spring and inspect for oil leakage or damage. It should expand on its own when compressed.

If I'm wrong, while you are up close and personal with your suspension, you might find something else.

This happened when I had my stock shocks and I changed them to aftermarket performance shocks and it's still the same. I'll certainly let you know if I ever find out.

Check your rear upper knuckle bushings. Mine wore out and others on this site have had similar issues. If they are shot, Mitsugraveyard has them.

what issues did you experience with the worn out knuckle bushing? I think mine is a bit worn. I also thought the knuckle and the bushing was a one piece item and that the bushing is not sold separately... at least that's what I was told. but i will definitely go to mitsugraveyard. thanx!

Well, Zippy just may have the right answer this time. I have yet to experience the joys of rear bushing replacement but apparently it's a real bi***.
