Ok so I'm switching to e85 and now I'm wondering if I could use my stock supra smic that I have lying around instead of having to buy a FMIC.

I would ofcourse make a custom fiberglass ducking from the front with it.
And use factory windshield sprayer to spray water to ic when I want.

This will be boosting in the 25-30 psi range or whatever it takes my e316g to get to atleast 350whp(ideally goal is closer or at 400.)

Will be tuned with ECM on sd with supporting mods.

FMIC is the original plan on pump gas with meth inj. But reconsidered this because of e85.
So if it would cool enough since it's e85 then it's quite a big plus for me for the following reason.
1. I already have it/more money elsewhere LOL
2. Sleeper look is a plus
3. Shortest piping route
4. When emission /smog comes around I can just switch the piping to stock looking and not have to take off FMIC and drop the stock smic back in.(i try not to pay couple hundred if I can help it LOL less money for smog=more for mods LOL)
5. Lighter weight vs FMIC
Biggest plus is this. Since I'm trying to drop the weight of the talon to 2800 but remaining comfortable enough DD so I'm really not trying to add more weight.

Anyone run similar setup?

Ps I search this topic and found a few asking what is the limit of supra smic BUT it was on pump not e85 so I'm wondering if with e85 it would still get heat soak with ducking.
This is a DD so that means I'm only on WOT once in a while the rest is just cruising.

Why did you post another thread when you already have one with a lot of replies asking basically the same thing?

Well the supra sidemount is good for 350 for shizzle..Although I'm thinking that may be on pump gas..So it's possible..You may want to keep an eye on IAT...And get on the dyno to make sure your not going to run super hot, and heatsoak the shit out of the IC.

Also aftermarket fans will help to keep the heat in the engine bay down trying to push the supra smic to 400 hp.

Good luck.

I just got rid of a supra side mount. I liked the intercooler, personally. The install wasn't nearly as bad as I anticipated either. The issue I ran into was the heat soaking because of my location. I'm in the Fresno, CA area so the temperatures can climb and stay in the triple digits for days if not weeks on end. If you're satisfied with 350 I don't see you having any issues with it, however.

For an intercooler sprayer I just rerouted the line for the rear windshield wiper spray, and fastened the sprayer to a J-mount that is almost completely out of sight. You can also go online and find some solutions that are mainly distilled water, but have a high alcohol content in them. They tend to bring the temperatures down 10 - 15 degrees more than just plain water, without risking any corosion to the intercooler itself.

The only roadblock I think you're going to hit while trying to get there, is going to be the E85.

Um close but not at all.

Smic is the focus on this thread. I wanted to get people who actual tried it THEMSELF.

If I would have ask this on the other thread people who tried the supra smic ###### just glaze over it.

What do you mean by roadblock? E85 is way better fuel for big power than pump gas.

Did you make a custom ducking that push air from the front to the smic?

And are you heatsoaking still with FMIC?

I had a 450whp supra before this and the FMIC would heatsoak on a hot summer day that reach around 100* so when its really hot I don't know if there's much that can be done

I'm in bay area California btw.

I moved the sprayer over and use it on my FMIC, and I don't run into any heat soaking issues anymore. I eventually invested in a Snow stage 2 kit, though. Can't beat the results for the price.

Sometimes olds school trumps new school. I think it would
Work but it's gonna heat soak easy. There just isn't enough surface area to exchange heat good enough to keep it cool for a prolonged period of time.

Just grab a fmic. Supra side mounts are old school not worth the stress on your car.

adding whp puts a stress on a car.
personally if it work Id go for it no matter if its old school.

I have a 400+ turbo v8 datsun that runs on blowthrough carb.

old school holley 650.

it works and does wonder so i run it.

newer just isnt needed IMO if you can save money on old stuff that works.

did you have the same issue before the snow kit?

im changing to e85 so I wouldn't benefit from using my meth kit that I have.

btw not sure if you glazed over it but did you have any sort of ducking?
I think in order for the SMIC to function well you have to FORCE air into it through custom ducking. I just think theres to much in the way without it.

now that you mentioned that. hmm do you think this heatsoak issue would occur in the freeway aswheel? or just around town?

Honestly, we need more info. What are the supporting mods for e85 and the SMIC will heatsoak much quicker than say a VRSF front mount of better yet an ETS.
