Supra SMIC

hey There is a guy locally that is selling his MKIV SMIC for $75, Im going to take a guess that I will need to spend about $50 for piping and couplers, all in all is it worth it? dont know how much of a performance gain I'll get, but it's only $125. what do you guys think?

thats what I was thinking, I've been looking at the classifieds and they go for $200. wondering if I'm going to feel a difference on the butt dyno.

The difference won't be felt on the butt dyno, but on the fact that you can bump the boost up a notch and keep the knock monster away for those extra psi's.

all depends on what your planning on doing..The SSMIC is a tight innercooler..But i've allways been a Fan of a FMIC..dan

well for 125, I'm going to try it out, then sell it, I eventually plan on getting a SBR kit around spring. just holding myself over for now.

I have it installed on my 2g and I love it. Yes a FMIC would be better, but for the price you cannot beat it. The only problem I see for you is the actuall install. I got mine from a guy that gave up on install for his 1g. For the 2g it was a direct bolt on w/ greddy hard pipes. I believe there is an install for this in the tech articles or vfaq. Check it out.

Your gonna make me cry Dave. The memories of trying to install that supra SMIC in my car over 3 days, then selling it to you and you have it running the next day.

From what I have read and been told from people including Dave, it is a big improvement over stock. The supra IC is huge compared to the stock DSM IC. It is a pain to install it on a 1G, but with a little work it can be done. On an automatic, it is another story. There is not a whole lot of room for the LICP to fit because the tranny is in the way.

Definately worth the buy.

I have a metal ssmic, not oem. The butt dyno difference was HUGE that I remebered. About as strong as doing metal ic pipes from stock which is impressive to me.

I felt a very nice gain from my supra side mount. Better top end power and no more heat soak.

I ran one "for a bit" but didnt care for how ridiculously low the bottom of the intercooler hung. One rock or speed bump and its gone.

Dude, I agree...but look at your FMIC now! One steep driveway or a big snow bank...

My supra intercooler is tucked up as high as it can go and it has a lot of ground clearence. But that is on my 2g.

It sits higher than the supra sidemount by 4 inches. That was the highest I could get the sidemount. I have had no problems whatsoever with the fmic as it sits at the same height as the frame. The tow hooks would hit 2 inches before the intercooler would. Sean
