Based on experience, what do you guys suggest i should get for a component system for my front speakers. My budget is about 200.
Thanks guys

I have Alpine Type R 6.5 components in my doors. Running 75 watts to them and they sound great! I have dealt with Kenwood and Pioneer in the past and was not happy. Type R cost me about 250 for the set, but well worth it. For excellent sound you might want to look into CDT or Rainbow, but those are a bit more... 300+

Thanks. I was checkin out the type R system. How about the polk db's? And how is Rockford Fosgate in speakers?
Thanks guys

JBL Gto 6.5 component set fits you budget (msrp 179) and sounds better than the type R's, and those are some of the better sub 300 6.5s out there.

The only other ones I have liked are Focal, but they are usually out of your price point.

I help down at a local audio shop here in town and the new stuff out by MT is actually very good. Most of it is decently cheap too. One of the other guys told me at one of the shows he went to they had a booth set up with the MT components and some Infinity Kappa's which I believe were best sellers last year(largely due to Crutchfield). He said many of the audio giro's who came out of the booth picked the MT and were amazed that they beat the Infinity. Also their new amps are amazing and way underrated, even the specs they give, according the the birth charts that come with some amps. I have also always been a big Alpine fan so I'd check the type R's too but keep MTX in mind.

the Alpine Type R's retail at $250, but the Alpine Type S components retail at $200. if you're using an amplifier, both will work just fine for you. if your running it off the headunit, i'd reccommend the R's, they just sound cleaner to me when not using an amp. (BTW, i'm an Alpine dealer, and have heard both in many different situations)

thanks for all the help guys
what do you guys think about the Infinity Kappa perfect 6.1 component system? I've found them for about 270, and it is a little more than my price range but I'd be willing to get them if they were good. Would they fit?
Thanks

yes, they are a good set. however, what kind of music do you listen to? in MY OPINION, the Infinity's are a little better suited for rock (classic, modern, metal, jazz, etc...) more musical types of listening, while the Alpines are great for metal, hard rock, rap/techno, etc.

i personally think they are both excellent speakers, but that the Alpines put out a little more midbass to my likings. the new Type R tweeters (2005 model) are also a LOT better than last years, so make sure you get this years, and not last years on sale or something. the tweeter last year was fairly harsh sounding, and very very high. some like that, some don't, just thought i'd inform you. (i have last years and LOVE them, but the new tweets & crossovers are awesome this year!)

Infinity sounds good, but due to a Customer service issue I will never do buisness with them again.

as to them fitting, you can always build a pod like Devilish did. I would post a pic of mine but I still need to smooth out the body filler.

Fit? Absolutely no problem, almost anything upto an 8 will fit in a 2g. 6-7" are a drop in unit

Sound q wise, I never liked infinity's very much, and their quality/durability was pretty pissy for something that cost that much.

What music do you listen to?

How much time have you spent listening to these or other speakers?

Take a cd or two with you to the sound store, asked to audition the ones you are interested in.

Listen to them, compare them, and after 5 minutes you will have an Idea... LIsten to theset you like for another 15 minutes or more, see if they get annoying, try the other set for the same amount of time.

Tips. Turn of all equalization, this means the amps, on the head, everywhere. USe the same amp for all listening, but try to pick the same amp you will be using. there is a noticeable SQ difference between a JBL, ALpine, Pioneer, and a Kicker amp all of the same rating on the same speaker and head.

Personally I like the jbls becasue they are smooth and have a hint of warmth to them that i find lacking in the infinity and alpine lines. The tweeters are not harsh at all, unlike my current MBquarts which are set to -6 db tweeter to smooth them out.

hey forget that infinity talk! my friend had infinity components that he was gonna sell to me as he was getting other speakers, but he got his new ones before i bought the infinities and then wouldn't let me buy them because compared to the new ones the infinities were pure crap and he said he just couldn't do it to me. instead he recommended a component set from elemental designs. maybe you've heard of em, but they have two levels of components, the 6000s and the 6500s. he got the 6500s and i got the 6000s, mainly cuz he is far more extreme (they are 300 ish) but the 6000s are i think around $150 and let me tell you they sound just awesome. i haven't even bought an amplifier for them (just head unit power) and they sound great. check it out www.edesignaudio.com.

Iguess as always it comes down to you going and listening and making an informed and educated decision now...

:D

MB Quartz maybe..if the price is good.

For a truly GOOD set of component speakers that are low on cost, look at CDT's or eD's.
Power them with a 2 ch amp capable of 100w+ rms to each channel.

That's becasue the Mb quarts that he can afford are about the 5th best speakers I have ever heard for under $200...

and the top 2 have been mentioned.

JBL GTO
Alpine Typr R

honestly the best set of speakers ive ever boughten are my infinity components. i love them. no matter how high you turn it up they sound great :thumb:
