hey i was picking out a sub/amp setup and this is what i came out with

2 Kicker Solo-Baric L7 04S12L7 12" Dual 4-ohm Voice Coil Woofers
subs

2 Sony XM-DS1600P5 500W x 1 Car Amps
Amps

i liked this setup but i didn't know if the sub and amp werent compatible for some reason or something, can an expert help me out
:thumb: :talon: :laser: :dsm: :thumb: :D

you can always wire the sub to reduce the ohmage to go with any amp...go for it man..

i'd go with something besides sony for amps, but if you're looking for loud with not a lot of clarity, the square solo's will do it :) check out soundstream, hifonics, mtx for a reasonably priced amp.

look at all brands. every one has a cheap amp...but in audio you deff get waht you pay for

yea i'll prolly check out some different amps

no

don't ever use max power numbers...
had a kid in the store trying to buy a 1000 w amp for his sony exploding subs... walked him out to the car, showed him where it said 1200w on them, and then opened to manual to where it said continuous power 300 watts...

if you are going to get two solos and use a sub amp (monoblock) get them in 2x2 configuration, and wire them for a 2 ohm load... then you can use a much smaller amp that gives 4-500 watts into a 2 ohm load to drive them...
l7s like about 500watts of power sealed and generally about 400w PROPERLY ported.

for materials you need 3/4 inch MDF or HDF or apple ply, if you want plexi try 1.5 inch material, use plenty of reinforcing inside the box also in 3/4" MDF... and you need two separate chambers... not a common chamber design box

the rms of the sub is 750, the rms of the amp is 750, isnt that ok? And where can I get the wood and plexi, home depot?

Ok, first off you picked a nice set of subs. Not SQ subs but they get loud and dont sound too bad doing it. MOST IMPORTANTLY do not get a crap amp like a Sony!!!!! You can get a MUCH better amp for about the same money. Example: Hifonics bx1500d brand new on ebay 250 plus shipping, it will do 1500 ACTUAL RMS watts at one ohm. A very nice amplifier. If you want more examples let me know.

I say this coming from over 3 years on sounddomain.com forums, and having installed several stereo systems. My last setup was 2 Phoenix Gold 15's sealed with about 1800 watts going to them. Now I am running just one in my eclipse with about 900 going to it.

what is a good amp with 650-750 watts rms at 4 ohms for a good price?

you dont want to wire it at 750 rms watts at 4 ohm, you want as low as ohm as your amp can handle. Look for a hifonics bx1500dmono amp(spending $400+ on an amp is ridiculous)and youll be able to power both your subs off it. My friend has 1 l7 15 in a ported box and a 500 watt jl amp and damn does that thing hit. Seriously be ready for ALOT of bass

There's a little sounddomain in all of us. I've been there since december '01. What's your name on SD?

I have the hifonics 1500D and had the 1000D before it got stolen. Both are incredible amps and can be had on ebay for below $250.00! Damn do my 2 10" L7's hit off that 1500D!!!!!

homedepot/menards for the wood, glue, silicone, screws.

you'll need a plastics supplier for the 1.5" thick lexan. personally, i think 1" thick is enough if it's properly braced, and with seperate chambers you 'll have a brack right in the middle. thicker is always better, but i think 1" lexan would do it for you.

you'll need someone to cut that lexan for you as well, you probably don't want to risk messing up on cutting a 1" lexan panel that is gonna cost you well over $100-$150 for that piece alone. have the plastics supplier shop place cut out the openings for the speakers for you. get them the measurements and where you want them, and let them cut it for you. that way, if they screw up your not out the $150 for the piece. (or probably more for that size & thickness)

good luck with your project. the kicker L5's and L7's are def. loud, we used to carry them at the shop i work at. i agree with the rest, use a better amp than the sony. check the Hi-Fonics or Soundstream for lower priced amps. you can also try AudioPipe for a decent powerhouse with a small pricetag. (don't laugh at that option, it's just that... an option) myself, Alpine or Boston or something similar, but those have hefty pricetags as well.

My SD name is SpeedWagon.

What you are going to want to do, is wire the subs to probably a one ohm load, and use obne amp to power them both. This way is much more efficient and practical than using two amps.

The Hifonics bx1500d will be a great match for your subs, because it does right about 1500 watts RMS into a ONE ohm load.

ok, so can someone tell me how this will work, im buying dvc 2-ohm subs, the l7's, and 2 BX1000D amps, so what do i do to make it wire 2-ohm's?

you could wire it to 1 ohm if you use an amp for every dvc 2 ohm sub. that would also give you the most power. plan on buying a new alternator and battery in the near furure

but so what makes it wire 1-ohm or 2-ohm, is it the wire thickness, or the way you hook it up, or what, thats what i need to know

ok so somebody correct me if im wrong but this is what i've learned

lets just say im getting one amp and one sub. Im getting a dvc 4-ohm sub and an amp that gives 500 watts at 4-ohm's, and 750 watts at 2-ohms, i wire the positive wire and negative wire like normally to the sub, then from there i wire the positives and negatives from one voice coil to the other, i would be getting 750 watts to the sub right?

I feel like such a noob

how you wire it depends on what ohm the it is. if you amp is one ohm stable, then you want to have you sub that vcs can be wired in 1 ohm to get the most power out of your amp. hifonics has a 750 mono amp that would match the sub perfectly if you bought the 2 ohm dvc subs. you could also get the 1500 watt mono hifonics and wire it at 1 ohm to 2 dvc 4 ohm subs at 1 ohm and save some money. if you amp can handle 1 ohm, you want to buy your subs to be able to run them at 1 ohm.
