Stupid question, turbo timer

Okay, here is my stupid question of the day. What is a turbo timer? I think what it does is when you turn off the car, it delays it a little bit so that the turbo can cool down, because you have to let it cool down before turning off the engine for oil temp purposes or something like that.. I may be right, but for some reason I dont think I am. Please tell me. Thanks

Yes, it's a timer that lets your engine idle down after being "turned off" with the key out and the doors locked. In the DSM world, with water-cooled turbochargers, they're glitzy toys that some feel compelled to shell out the $100+ for, but to no real-world benefit.

Some versions have more bells and whistles, including music playing and other gimmicks.

Is it really worth it? I mean I can sit in the car for an additional 2 minutes before I turn it off anyway. Thanks for the quick response.

yeah i think i will be getting a TT soon, but i have a viper alarm system in my car, so how would i lock it,or when the car shuts off, it will alarm itself?

Turbo Timer is really only a benefit in cold weather when your oil get get caked onto the bearing on the turbo if the vehicle cools down too quickly. You can get one if you want or like you said you can wait manually. I have one just because the previous owner put it in.

You couldn't "cake" oil in a turbo housing in mid-winter Siberia.

However, I do agree that a TT would prevent it from happening. I leave empty Diet Coke cans on the kitchen counter to ward off elephants. There's not been a one in this town since I moved here.
