Strut Bars.. No Name or Brand Name?

Does anyone have this problem with their front strut tower bar. there is about a 1/8 of an inch gap between the bar and i believe its my intake manifold. well when i turn the car on since this piece is so close it hits it when it vibrates and when i shut it off it does the same thing. also when i go in reverse and cut the wheel sharp it sounds like its hitting off of the bar. i called the place where i got it and they said i either have bad motor mounts or i could just use a wahser to lift it up a little. i was wondering if anyone has this same problem and if they did how did you fix it ... thanks

mine has a gentle bend in it to clear any obstructions.

what the shop said is probably right tho, if you have that much slop you might need to fix your motor mounts. If they go you can have serious problems.

and as for the other point about the piece not being solid, this one has adjusting bolts that go way inside the main piece. Like 3" in. and the hardware is all large, strong pieces.

It doesn't matter how far the bolts go into the main piece. It's the other side of the bolt that creates the pivot point ( where the cross bolt goes through).

98TalonESI; I would suggest some poly engine mounts that should tighten things up enough. Some people say they vibrate alot, but mine don't seem to bad to me.

attached are some pics.. going to install them friday.

after installing the rear strut.. the cover that hangs to hide the trunk hits against it.. is anyone else having that problem? so i just removed that cover completely.. as shown in the pic below..

my cover goes on fine and doesnt hit. but what i did was the little covers on the side that you have off i took a dremel tool and made a hole for my strut bar to slide through. just do some measurements ( cant remember what i did) and draw some circles with pencil and figure where the bar is going to come through the plastic at then just drill the holes. to get the plasti pieces on you have to take of the part where you adjust the bar off then slide the two platic pieces on then just twist the piece back on the simply slide the two plastic pieces to each side that they go on bolt in the piece and your done it looks alot better then seeing the metal. this may sound a little confusing but if you have questions just pm or im me on aol.

I am making made mine out of double welded box steel. I'll weld a nut into both ends for adjustment and thread one into the bolt attached to the shock tower plates made out of flat steel. The other will require you to turn the entire bolt itself to tighten the bar down. Only way I could figure it out without having too track down a reverse thread bolt and nut. Would be nice to just twist the whole bar to tighten it. Cost is about 20.00 for both bars. You can paint them up and they would look real nice...downside...they're heavier.

If i were to buy a front strut bar again i would go with a good name brand. i bought one from www.speedpeople.com and its junk. when i put it on i had about 1/8 or less inch gap between the intake manifold and the bar and it hit off it for like a week and chunked the under side of the bar up ( not bad but it just did some sctaches). then i tried lifting it by putting washers on the frame then bolting it on that didnt work it then hit my hood. i dunno i think my luck with my car is just horrible but if anyone wants to buy it pm me ill sell it for like 15-20 bucks haha
