I have a 93 Talon awd and my driveshaft studs are stripped. I know your first questions would be how did they get stripped or re-thread them. But, the guy who owned the car before me said that the guy who owned it before him had stripped the driveshaft studs so, the guy I purchased the car from re-threaded them. Well he took an impact gun to it and when I made my car fwd after my xfercase took a dump I drove it for a while then when i purchased another xfercase I went to go bolt up the driveshaft and almost all the studs were stripped. What do i do? The driveshaft studs aren't a part i can buy from the dealer so does anyone know what i can do?I cant rethread them for fear i might snap the studs. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Using a die to rethread those studs doesn't work in my experience. I stripped one of them on my friend's car using a impact to snug the nut down :nono: . In the end after trying two smaller die sizes the weak threads couldn't hold the kind of torque you'd want and he had to drill the stud out and weld a new bolt in its place from inside the car. I think those things are welded in at the factory, meaning the only good repair is cutting/drilling them out and welding new ones in. I'll get my friend to chime in as he was the one who did all the research on how to fix the problem. He should know what your options are.

Is it the front driveshaft support or the rear?

If you can locate someone parting out a 2G AWD car or if there's on in a local salvage yard, you can use a spotweld removal drill bit and cut the support out and re-weld in onto your car. That's exactly what the FWD guys do when converting to AWD.

I just happened to cut the rear support off my parts car last night. It only took about 6 minutes. I can't think of an easier method to get the job done correctly.

It took about that long to cut off the stud, drill straight up through it into the car, then drop a long grade 8 down the hole and weld it on the floor. (I actually welded the bolt head to a large 1 1/2" washer then welded the washer to the floor after shaping it to the contour of the floor.)

Interior was gutted at the time for weight reduction mods.

If you don't have a welder to do any of these fixes, the bolt being welded down in my case was not for support, It was so I could tighten and loosen from the bottom without the top spinning freely. (JB Weld would probably hold it from spinning)
