Hey i was going to work yesterday. i let my car warm up for about 5 min. it was about 15 out. I get going on my way to work then i hear my belt squeel. Then my battery light hand brake, ABS and coolent light all light up at the same time. So i thought my altnator died on me or i threw a belt. But i check it and the belt was still there. So i drove on my way to work. And i was kinda worried about if i have enoug battery power to make it there. Then something seemed odd to me none of the lights seems dim to me. So i used my turbo timer to check car voltage and its reading about 18.3 volts is that correct??

Also when the car idles it seems like the altnator dies out and the lights go dim And when i am having this problem my high beams wont come on either. And it seems like everything is working faster windsheld wipers, washer fluid pump. Is the altnator putting out to much voltage.

Thanks
Guys.

To me it seems like you have 2 conflicting stories. Both of these things happened to me but for 2 different reasons. When all the lights came on, the lower crank pulley was separating, so the PS and alt belt where not spinning very much. But in another instance my alt was charging to around 17/18 volts it was the voltage regulator in the alternator. I wouldn’t recommend driving like this. It is possible that you may blow the caps on your battery and cause a mess of your engine. Replace the alternator; maybe check the lower crank pulley?

thanx dude as im thinking i remember all the light comming on before whe my altnator died in the first place. Maybe its a safty feature when thier is over voltage. What u think

Any ideas on that.
