Story from hell!!!!

Ok well i'm coming back from college today with my roommate. Its our spring break. Anyways when we got onto the interstate i realized my talon has crazy road noise coming from the rear. I usually notice alot of road noise but not this much. I didn't think anything of it b/c i thought it was just my imagination. So about 20 minutes later i hear a loud thud thud from the drivers side rear wheel. It sounded like something got stuck in the wheel well and got dislodged. 5 minutes later it happens again. I'm like what the ####!! So i pull over to the side of the road and nothing is stuck and everything looks just fine. So i go ahead driving again and the noise happens again.This time the road noise seems to be getting louder. So i pull into a gas station and thoroughly check everything out. Still nothing wrong at all. So i drive again and nothing happens. About 15 minutes later that noise happens again but really badly. My roomate is like something is messed up man it doesn't make sense. I pull over to the side of the road and jack up the rear of the car and remove the wheel. Everything looks fine and the wheel spins freely no problem. Nothing is loose so i can't figure it out. So i basically say #### it i'm gonna drive until something finally breaks so i know what it is. About another 20 minutes go by and the road noise is unbearable. Then the thud thud repeats every couple minutes. I pull over once more and say thats it something is really messed up so i'm calling a tow truck. While on the shoulder of the road i have my roommate drive my car a few feet so i can see if the wheel is wobbling at all. Nothing at all. A state trooper pulls over to offer some help and i tell him to get next to me while driving to see if he can see anything going on in that rear wheel. I'm driving off the shoulder and going about 10mph when the back end starts becoming really loose and the rear is all over that place and i hear a squeeling noise. I pull over immediately and tell the cop that this baby needs to get towed. Still not knowing whats wrong at all. Tow truck comes and brings it to a BP with a service station. My car is in the middle of nowhere in some hick country town and i'm 150 miles away from it right now. They said they'll take care of it tommorow but no one knows what is wrong yet. I'm thinking is the wheel bearing but would it make the rear end loose like that and go all over the place???
I'm so confused and so pissed off. Keep in mind the brakes are fine no heat whatsoever and the wheel moved freely when i jacked up the car. Oh well i guess i'll find out tommorow......

rear sway bar ?? my friends broke on his probe and it did the same thing good luck

hmmm, that could be a possiblity but i never heard of one of those breaking....

Check the rear axles, especially the drivers side. Your carrier bearing bracket may be the only thing holding the axle on as it slaps around in side the bearing. Good Luck!

Right, but it sounds more like a bushing to me also.
I had the same thing happen to me a month back and it was a bearing.
Goodluck tho.

Get those bearings checked.
But for the bearing mine got worse as I slowed down or when I took a left turn, reason for it getting worse going left was cause the right bearing was ####ed up.

sounds like a wheel bearing to me. same think happend to me on my way home from school a few weeks ago. i only got about 10 miles away when i turned back. so i was stuck 200 miles away at school and had to pay $230 to fix it.

Yeah mechanic told me today it was the wheel hub bearing. Its gonna cost me about $300 to fix.
