stock rs turbo laser vs. tiburon gt (v6)

my friend has a tiburon gt with an aem intake and some headers. he said he would smoke me in my stock turbo laser. the only mods i got done to my car are the free ones. i rode in his tiburon and it feels pretty fast but hes lacks traction like a beech. i think i can still take him. please let me know if i stand a chance against this mighty beast (hahaha). oh, he said his best run was a 9.86 in the 1/8 mile with a 2.3 60ft. time. :laugh:

Should be a relatively close race, i'd think. He can run high 14's low 15's, right? Same with you. should be close.

any advice to get the upper hand? tire pressure, launching, my is a fwd too. race gas or regular octane. i know i can good, so i think i got the upper hand there cause he is not that great of a driver. i having been driving for about four years now. he has only been driving for two.

dont use race gas unless u have some kind of fuel control u should be able to run a 14.9-15.1 stock if your a hell of a driver so it will be close my best advice would be to buy a manual boost controller and turn the 14b up a bit and u shouldnt have a prob

With Intake,Exhaust,Headers those V6 tibbys can hit mid 14s.

Yeah they run high 15s stock, and being a v6 they will respond almost as good as our cars to mods.I wouldnt be suprised to see mid-high 14s out of it with those mods. But that is with a fairly good driver and traction...otherwise Id say itll be a drivers race.

thats good to know. i know i am a better driver than he is. i rode with him while he was getting on it. yeah sure it felt like he was going fast but like you said, he was getting nothing but tire spin. thats not going to win the race. all the way through first and half of second. i think i can take him.

the 5 speeds are a little better i think for drag racing and the 03's had grippier tires stock.

The V6 GT is only availble with a 6-speed, the 4-banger 140hp one is the one with the 5-speed and it is dirt slow.


The V6 Tibbys only have 174hp, so you will smoke him if it is close to stock, they weight in at over 3000 pds.

look retard i sell them everyday of my life, i know which transmissions they're available with. you can have your choice of either a base 5 speed gt with cloth, the automatic with shiftronic, or the available 6 speed which you will most often find with leather, sunroof, and the subwoofer option (but not necesarily). yes the other 5 speed is available with the 143 hp 4 cylinder as well. while the v6 does only have 174hp it's due in part to the tuning since the vehicle is approved to run on 87 octane, you can see this in the fact that the car makes 180lb/ft of torque. lean it out a bit and run premium and i'd bet you'd see some good gains.

I have 2 friends that own a Plymouth laser RS Turbo and a GT V6 Tibby. My friend with the laser always spanks him, i know he has a few mods but dont know which ones. By the way, i race that tibby all the time and hell be lucky if he even stays within 5 car legnths behind me...i think there :thumbdown , hyndai's really blow, koreans dont know how to make cars (Im not racist against koreans..jwu to know that), there almost as bad as kia if not worst IMO.

You shouldnt have a problem with him unless, he has something major done. Itll be hell of a surprise..but ill advise u not to sleep on him..he might just be f-king with ya about the tire spin so you can race him.

I have two jobs, and make $200 on just saturdays and sundays. The I work (4 hours a day)monday-thru friday making $150 every two days. Thats $875 I bring in a week for working minor hours. Thats $ 3500 a month. And I have a fully paid college grant.

I speak from experience in the tiburon matter. I used to own one. In fact, I just got rid of it last month... Stock, my best time was a 15.286 @ 91mph. With I/H/E my best time was a 14.704 @ 90mph. I have raced a few stock GSX eclipses in the street and they kill me on the launch but I start reeling them in rather handily...

With just an intake and headers he should be hitting 14.8's to 14.9..

Is your laser RS AWD? if you are both equal drivers, I think it will be a tossup. if he can't drive, you should beat him.

I got rid of the tiburon to go back to a DSM.. My next project is going to be a built eclipse RS. I used to own one and now I want it back.

see thats the thing. i have a laser rs fwd,but on the other hand, he waited to long. now i have my intake with the k&n filter, boost gauge and pod. i am getting my boost controller this friday. hes toast. im still running stock boost (6-7psi i guess) i dont know if that is stock or not.i want to turn it up to about 14-15psi with the boost controller. what do you think

My stock boost is 9 psi.

Rewire your fuel pump while you're at it, and run 15 psi. You'll have no problem.

Guys--I got the first test drive in the Tiburon V6 when it came out at our local dealership and I had alot of fun in that car. I think it is Hyundai's best effort yet and for the money is sweet. I clocked 0-60 runs in just over 7 seconds flat with considerable tire spin, the sales rep was cool! I think it looks pretty sweet as well.

As far as a race with even a stock Laser.....that's a driver race.....top-end pulls go to the Laser. Add free-mods and the separation would be big. My first Laser RS, ran 14.6@97 with K&N, 13psi and the air silencer removed...that's it. Steel wheels/hubcaps and all, full weight. I hollowed the cat, ran the lighter wheels from the Talon, boosted 19psi and ran [email protected] with a 2.3 60'. This is still blowing through stock exhaust piping and muffler. I actually just picked up another Laser RS FWD, I love the cars, subtle, noone knows what hit 'em.

Just my .02. For the money, in small car performance, the 90-94 DSMs take the cake.
