I have a 97 eclipse, all im running is a short ram air intake everything else is stock (for now) shes fast as hell but not bragging fast, my friend owns a 2000 vw gti 2.0 it has new cam new pulleys intake exhaust chip plugs this that the list goes on. we have never raced head to head but have played the chase game and more or less i pretty much keep right on his a$$, with the exception he has suspension work and i dont (yet will in a few days), so around the harder turns he pulls away. On the launch he dont pull away from me even though he has more lower rpm tourque, his being a 5 spd and mine auto i figure its cuz i have more consistancy with shifting and not losing down time. But in the long run in a strait shot does anyone know if id have a really good chance or a slim chance or no chance, his stock HP is like 115 but with all those mods it feels faster then mine. any ideas?

Well.. 2.0's are NOT fast at all... The best turbocharged ones can only reach stock 1.8T or VR6 speeds. Some have experimented with 2.0 bottom ends and 1.8T heads, but I don't know about that.

If you were a 5 speed, you'd be cleaning his clock all day. Since you're an auto, this is a hard call. I'd say he's a little faster than you, based on the fact he has a ton of mods... but not all that much faster.

Just race and find out.

I doubt it I had a manual jetta 2.0 basically same motor no mods and I could beat stock rs eclipse's all day with no problems, the 4th gen gti is heavier if you had a manual it still should beat you. I never lost to a 420 but the naturally aspirated 4g63's gave me problems.

Im gonna have to call BS on ^^^. I use to own a 97 Eclipse RS auto, My cousin owns a 1997 Jetta GT (Vento). All i had was an intake and he had an intake, weve ran 7 times. All the 7 times weve raced, he would get me on the launch and then i would pass him like hes nothing. I would get him by 2-3 cars by the end of the 1/4 and by 4-5 when we raced more than that. There is no way a stock 115 HP Jetta 2.0 that can take any 420a's stock vs stock. Give the 420A a little more credit. The GTI 2.0 115 HP is not FAST by any standards, you definitely have a shot at him. Auto vs Manual is a different story. Also, since he has mods, it will be a close race. Now if it was a 1.8T or a VR6 you were racing, hed definitely kill you, but since its not, go out there and race him.

Isnt the GTI a 1.8 turbo? They come with 150hp and with just an intake, exhuast, and chip gives it 50 more hp.

the only 1.8t that comse with 150hp is a de-tuned beetle turbo... its 181 for the regular 1.8ts

See that i know isnt true, from personal experience, cuz my other friend has a jetta 2.0 manual and when we all play the chase game he cant ever keep up not even close, theres been several times when hed be following me somewhere and id lose him in a matter of seconds and thats on strait aways, then when id follow him, id never be more then 5 feet from his bumper at all times, i even had to let off the throttle every time or id hit his bumper. Anywho once i finish the current work on my car, theres weekend races down at the airport, i may challenge him see what happens.

8v 2.0 and 16v 2.0 have gone 10's and 11's (I think Kevin Black's 16v has gone 9's now). My boy went 12.6 on a stock 2.0 (8v) block. Most are not fast, and without a turbo they are dogs mostly.
