stock manifold = slow spool?

I recently put on a e16g on my 95 gsx. the only thing I did not upgrade in the exhaust path is the 2g manifold. I am having some pretty slow spool with my 16g and am curious if the stock manifold is the culprit. I am seeing full boost as late as 3900-4000.

I have checked for boost leaks and the only thing that lets out any air is the lower nipple on my greddy type s. It lets it out fast enough that when the system is charged to 20psi it falls back to zero in a matter of seconds. is this normal? or could this be my cause of slow spool?

what do you guys think, the unported manifold or the bottom nipple of the bov?
 
The manifold is not the problem, you should have full boost in the low 3000's if not sooner.

That little nipple isn't your only leak if the boost is falling that fast.
 
The nipple is the only leak. When plugged the charge holds pressure and drops off incredibly slow. All of the intercooler piping was tested up to 30psi and no leaks at all.

Maybe I should cap the lower nipple off? although I have read not to touch that lower nipple and to leave it vented.

that lower nipple shouldn't be causing any problems ... I bet you have more leaks.
 
Not trying to overhaul this thread or anything, but since it is pertaining to boost leak testing I do have a question :). Should the pressure hold rock solid (on the boost gauge), or is it OK to drop of really slow?
 
from what I have read the pressure will release very slowly. Mine would hold at 30 psi and barely drop at all. I would release the pressure myself through the adapter I made to fit the intake.
 
As long as it takes a couple of seconds per psi of pressure drop, then the leak is inconsequential.
