Hey guys,
Well after my fiasco with the talon, I'm now an owner of a nice 97 GSX. There's only a couple small problems.

- Speedometer is off by 10MPH (above)

- Fuel Gauge is off by 1/4 (low, I fill it and it goes to 3/4)

- Temp Gauge is off by about 1/4 (high, it goes to 3/4 and sits there)

The oil and boost gauges work as well as they're going to I guess, as well as the Tach (from what I can tell).

What I'm wondering, as I'm new to gauge cluster stuff is if there are sensors gone or if the previous owner might have messed up the needles when they installed the white gauge faces (which are horrible, btw). Im going to be taking the white faces off and was wondering if there's a specific way that the needles go on and if that's the reason they are all messed up? Thanks for any help and if anyone has pics of how the needles line up or anything, that'd be great.

P.S - Please use simple terms, as I am new to this stuff :)

As for the speedometer part, have you tried unplugging the speed sensor and replugging it back in? It may just be loose. I remember when I was getting incorrect readings on my speedometer (i'm talking about inflations of about 15-30+ MPH), it was all caused by a loose speed sensor. I took it off, replugged it back in harder to fit tightly. Then boom, no more false readings, works fine. :thumb:

Exactly! You should note EXACTLY where the gauges are before removing the needles to put on white face gauges. I'm going to guess that the previous owner did not do that. Sucks for you because now its just a guess and check.

Hey there. I had to "recalibrate" my gauge needles when I installed the white faces on my 3000GT before. The way I was instructed to do so was...

-turn the key to "on"
-improperly positioned needles will move to some random point
-take off and reattach so that they point to zero/default
-put everything back together and ta-da!

For your fuel gauge, however, you can either fill it up to full and reattach the needle there OR let it run to near empty with the warning light and reattach there.

Thank you all for the quick replies. I didn't even think to try a search for LED install. Thanks snowboarder.

So i've got another question with this. I am probably going to take apart my gauge cluster this weekend or next week when it's nice out.

I did notice tonight, though, that when I turn on my headlights, I get no backlight display now. All I have are those white gauge faces (which are illuminated as soon as I turn the car on). Is there anyway that the bulbs were removed, or is there something just unplugged when you install the new white gauge faces (these are the ones that were installed)

Thanks guys. I also noticed that my air condition button lights up when i turn my air control to the windshield/floor heater setting or just windshield heater setting. not sure whether it actually comes on or not, but the green light comes on..... :(

This is because when you run the windshield defroster/defogger, the A/C kicks in. This is to help keep your A/C system charged in the winter. Since most people run the defroster and not the A/C, they linked them together. Otherwise, not using your A/C for a few months would make it not as cold once you started using it.

And while you have your cluster out, you could get rid of those junky gauge overlays and make it really nice! :thumb:

Wow, Thanks. I've never actually heard of the A/C coming on before when you use the defogger, but thanks.

And yes, those damned gauge overlays are coming off A.S.A.P. I'm just hoping the original lights still work and just are unhooked, because right now they don't light up.

Does anyone know exactly how the wiring looks for these things, so when I take them out I can get all of it? I looked at the instruction to put them in and it says something about a toggle switch and black box? I noticed two toggle switches (black/green) under my dash, but those look like they go to the CLifford Alarm System. Thanks again guys.

I would say to just look for any wires that were running up to the gauge cluster (since there aren't any stock as it's a plug and play cluster). It looks like it should be just a red and black.

Your stock lights should still work. If not, pull the cluster, take out the bulbs from the back and get new ones. Very easy.

Ok, Thank you very much. I should be doing this soon. We just had another 4 inches of snow dumped on us so I can't do it now, as I live at an apartment complex with no garage:cry:

The reason why I don't think they work is last night (first night of driving the new car) the lights that would normally light up the odometer reading were not there. I couldn't see my trip or odometer....But if it's simple like that, I shouldn't have too much troubles. Just gotta get my needles reading right again
