hehe kinda dumb question but whats stock boost on my car? just wondering if its worth it to install a boost controller and gauge without bov thats all. thanx

Make sure he's not reading it from the stock boost gauge, becuz it is crap.. Get the aftermarket boost gauge...

As for stock boost, My car was at 10psi..

and yes, a boost controller will raise the boost, but just dont raise it up past 15psi to be on the safe side..

I have performed the free mods and recently installed a boost guage. Does anyone know what a stock 1G awd 5sp with free mods should be boosting?
I am running at about 8psi is that normal?

when u say free mods u mean...u took the boost solenoid off and now ur running directly from the lower intercooler piping to the wastegate....if so then ur running 8 psi...thats normal

if u still have the boost solenoid on u should be running 9-10psi

if u gott he first set up done i stated then its ok

if u got the second setup done and ur runnin 8psi...whats ur vaccuum at?...is it between -18 and -20 psi?

if so then its alright to be under by 1psi because ur engine might not be as tight as it should, ur turbo might not be in the greatest condition...many things...it might not be just a boost leak..it could be anything....

if u got high miles most likely wont run the strongest...nothing to worry about

if its not at -18 to -20 vacuum then come back to the forum....

7 stock 9 after free mods, and 15-16 now without a mbc. You have one of those low psi cars sorry to tell you, I thought the same thing when I hooked a boost gauge that 9psi with free mods was low. But stock is 8-11 so do a leak check fix whatever is broken(if there is something broken) then call it a day. Good luck and happy boosting.

Thanks for all the fast replys, I'm sill using the BCS and I have not removed the restrictor yet so I assume my boost at 8psi is normal. I'm going to remove the restrictor today and see whast happens. Also my boost guage is home made and may not be very accurate. I plan on making a DIY if it is reliable.

  The condition of the engine depends greatly on it, you cant say o since urs is lower u automatically have a boost leak.

Maybe I'm part grammar-nazi, but whenever I see a question without a '?' after it, I get weirded out, and wish I could edit the offending post myself.

Oh, and it whizzes me off, too, but I'm just cranky.
He is cranky, but 100% correct. Why should one take the time to help you and answer a question you have, if you didn't take the time to ask it in an adult, educated way?

What are you talking about???? I said he had a car like mine...no engine problems, no boost leaks and 9 psi after free mods. I was mearly saying do a leak check then fix it ,IF ANYTHING IS BROKEN, if not call it a day. As in the car is fine, I never implied that because his boost was lower that he had a boost leak.

Get what were saying? ;)

Back to topic.... A 1G AWD 5 spd. stock boost level is 11.05psi. After free mods and removed BCS restrictor, you should be in the vacinity of 12-14psi. If you are boosing only 8psi, you either have a boost leak, or your trusty "DIY" boost guage isnt very accurate :thumb: Check you vacuum line for your boost guage and check all the tap points that you used. It's easy that you may have accidently severed the line somehow.

How did you make a DIY boost guage? did you just runa tube off an air pressure guage to the throttle body elbow? I ask because ive thought of doing that before but then I wonder why nobody else has done it.

I just wanted to know if something is wrong with my car. I was told that stock boost readings for a 97 gsx should be around 8-11psi. I just installed my autometer cobalt boost, egt, and air-fuel gauges. My car is stock because i wanted to wait to put the gauges in to compare to stock levels...so my boost is reading at 14psi and i don't know if that is normal...my car is completely stock....i have a 3" thermal, uip, bov, intake, and boost controller ready to install but i don't want to do it yet if something is wrong

Have you got a aftermarket filter in there? If so that will cause boost creep.

it was pretty cold last night probably below freezing....and yes i do own an aftermarket air filter but its not installed....my car is completely stock

so i drove around this morning and my car was still hitting 14psi....but then it slowly drops....it doesn't ping off of 14 then go to a certain psi but it gradually decreases to about 11psi around 6500 rpms....then i shift and it goes back up to 14psi....it is mostly around 14 psi and as long as the revolutions don't go to high it stays there, it doesn't ping down....so what does that mean...do i have a boost leak? along with my car overboosting? im confused

2gs usuallly read 8-9 psi on stock cauge but on aftermarket gauges read 14 psi, everything seems fine, many other 2g people read 14 psi on aftermarket gauge, you dont want to take the T25 past 15 psi really anyways

your vacuum reading seems to be about where it should be
