ok to start i have a 97 gs all stock sound with no factory amp. I found a factory amp for my car at a junk yard but want to know if i can just plug it in and it will will or if i need the wire harness to go with it. I have the plug under my passenger side seat looks the same as the doner car but just didn't know if i could just plug it in and it would work? any help would be great thanks.

If there are no wires for it under the passenger seat, then no, you would need to get a whole harness from a car that has it. Did any 420a car even come with that sound system? That system came with better Infinity speakers, too. You need the radio that goes with the system that uses a separate amp, too. Why not just get an aftermarket radio? You're lucky by having a car without the separate amp, it makes going to a head unit much easier.

ive been through a lot of 2gs, talons, eclipses, non-turbo, turbo, etc.

even the ones that DID NOT have premium audio option, has the harness under the seat.

guess mitsu wired them all up that way.

if you plug in the amp, you also have to have the compatible premium deck.

there is a proprietary 6pin din cable that goes from the amp to the deck, that is the input/output.

then assuming the speaker wiring wasnt hacked up by you or previous owner it should work.

problem is, with all this work, why not just upgrade to aftermarket. youll have to tear down the dash anyways

^ Good info. It would probably sound like crap without better speakers.

+1 get a good pioneer or something like that way easier and sound way better to plus those amps dont put out to much anyways waist of time imo

Ive been worken on the sound upgrade. I had a 97 avenger with the infinity system and it sounded nice to me. I am thinking about going after market but just happen to see the harness and found an amp for cheap. So it was one of thos i wounder if it will work. Thanks for the info tho it helped me make my mind up and im going to try it and see what happens.

It is very interesting, I was just looking at the wiring diagrams for the 2g. Speaker connections go to the radio AND it has a plug for them at the amp. Very convenient. Off topic, but my MR2 had a separate amp for the speakers, but without having to rip apart every bit of the interior and ripping out the harness and redoing it, you have to wire together the connectors at the amp. It was quite retarded.

For the 2g if someone chose to use an aftermarket 4-channel amp for the speakers they could just use the DIN with some RCA adaptors, and wire to the speakers right under the seat. Quite awesome.

Quit spreading lies.

It is stupid easy to get an adapter to use an after market amped stereo with the stock amp.

Also, most of the 2gs have the same wiring harness meaning you could put the amped system in any car that has the correct plugs. My friends 98 RS has the plug for the amp and the cd changer but his car just came with the standard head unit / no amp / no cd changer.

My GST had the plug for the cd changer but did not come with the cd changer.

What did I lie about? That post starts with IF. The premium sound came with Infinity speakers. The non-premium speakers will be garbage with more wattage from a separate amp. If you want to call me out and bash me, PM me.

Yes i explain this multiple times.

I have asked moderators to sticky this.. so here it goes yet once again.

NO ONE knows any facts about how much the stock amp puts out. At least no concrete factual info.

Yes you can bypass it, but if you do, your dash speakers will NOT WORK by default, why? because the dash speakers are xover at the amp. thus why the harness for the amp has speaker leads to all locations, and YES why ramsack made a good point how EASY it is to wire an aftermarket amp because you dont have to run any new wires. its the secret to 2g audio ;), the entire car is wired parallel it seems, as if you don't use the amp, and use the harness behind the deck, it too is connected to the speakers, but not the dash speakers.

As far as using the infinity amp with a new deck with the MITAH adapter, this will allow you to still retain your dash speakers. but go back to what i said that no one has proof on how much the output is on the stock amp.

But this is where it starts to play games with you. MOST people bypass the amp when they get a new deck, and they just get a harness to hookup BEHIND THE STEREO. so if you remember what i said, this means the dash speakers wont work. This way is horrible, because the soundfield SHIFTS TO THE REAR. and dash speakers not working. very unbalanced.

Now if you use the Mitah adapter, your "EARS" will tell you this setup sounds better. this setup means your new deck is not using any of its power, and the factory amp is poweirng your speakers still. of course it has a higher voltage cleaner input, although who knows if there is any degradation on the signal using that adapter, but for the most part the reason it "SOUNDS" better is because the sound field is once again correct and balanced due to the dash speakers working.

So in COMPARISON, using the MITAH adapter with factory amp SOUNDS BETTER, BUTTTT, and a BIG BUTT, is this really a fair comparison? No its not, because you are comparing 4 speakers to 6. Esp. a big difference seeing as you lose the highs of the dash speakers and the overall balance and sound stage.

Now here is the kicker and how myself and others have came to a conclusion that factory amp does not put out as much power/nor cleaner power than even deck power (which is 15-20watt rms x4 on average).. if you install a set of components and xover the highs to the dash speakers, of course using the convenient wiring location under the seat, and the deck now powering it, you will now see how superior the aftermarket deck is powering everything.

Of course you don't have to get components and can wire them together, but chances are you will blow your dash speakers/tweeters unless you have a bass blocker of some sort wired inline. Thsu why it is worth it just to get components.

also here is another thing most people dont know, the Mitah adapter can be used in reverse. Meaning you can use STOCK DECK, with aftermarket amp. again, it doesnt make sense at all either way, with the work your doing. just change it all at once unless you are purposely looking to look stock. But makes no sense even more if you are changing the deck and still want to use the stock amp.

If you do a search, apparently the cars with non premium audio, have another set of wiring in the dash speakers, and the dash speakers in there, have some low hz filters to prevent it from getting those signals, it was more reason behind everything i said on how the were wired parallel.
