Hi, I'm new to all of this but, I have a stock 97 RS eclipse and am currently looking at getting a cold-air intake and a new exhaust system that isnt crazy expensive but still functions properly and sounds good. Also looking into getting 16 or 17" momo RPM wheels and a VISracing battle z body kit at some point, but I'm more concerned with getting the intake and exhasut for the moment. I would appreciate it if someone could help me decide the best working cold-air intake and best sounding exhaust system. thanks.

I'm against the whole body kit choice, but it is your car.

I would look into the AEM CAI's for your car. As for exhaust, if you're wanting to do a full header-back system, you can go with eBay. Many people frown apon using eBay but their exhaust systems are used by many people on this forum with no problems. Cheap ways. Ebay intakes you can go there for those as well. Just depends on your reference.

Ebay on both. They're just pipes. Just make sure you have a good air filter on the intake

I would keep the car as stock looking as possible, but that's just me. Not a big fan of unnecessary body kits and lights. As far as exhaust and intake, they are right. The ebay intake with a k&n filter works great! If you go with a cold air intake just make sure you have a water by-pass valve for it. Otherwise, short ram intakes work well too. Ebay exhaust is great if you're on a budget. I've ran ebay exhaust on my 96 RS for about 2 years now with no problems. FYI though, keep your cat converter on if it's your dd. The n/t Eclipse does not sound good at all with a straight pipe. Everything is simple to install, it all bolts on. Good luck! :D

hey for an exhaust i got a JVT racing cat back exhaust off ebay for like 120 shipped. it sounds great not like a honda or fart can at all very nice tone. the fitment was perfect too no compaints! didnt have to bend a single mounting point. only problem with some ebay headers like mine was that it was like a half inch too short to reach the cat.

I'm going agaist my better judgement on this but... I would say if you want a body kit than get it. Its your car and if thats what you want to do then don't let people talk you out of it. My advice would be to research first the work involved with a kit. There is a lot of fiberglass work you need to do before it will even fit right let alone look good. Please don't be one of those people that has it half bolted on and not even primmered driving around downtown with walmart neon lights and LED tire stem caps bumping music while reving the hell out of their Ebay exaust. That guy is the guy that makes 50 people on this website cringe when someone says "I want to buy a body kit". DONT BE THAT GUY. Instead before you install it make sure to sand and mod it so it will fit, then fill all the pin holes and get it painted before you slap it on. Also keep your stock body parts! You probably will want to go back to stock someday.

get a full exhaust system and a resonator, if you plan on doing a cat delete because i regret removing my cat and using a stright pipe... its loud as hell..

sounds like a 350, open headers LOL

I would recommend going with ebay exhaust it worked good for me and the flanges were thick as hell and the metal really was good quality stuff now as for intake I would also recommend ebay just get a good filter because everything else is just piping.:thumb:

just for your info i had a set of fiberglass fenders i was going to use on my car and the fitment was horrible!! they were a half inch short from the headlights all the mounting tabs were wrong i put alot of hours and money into re fiberglassing them they are almost done but i jus got sick of them. they are the f1 style i think they looked cool as hell on the car but nothing fits like oem stuff that why i jus got oem front and rear bumpers as well as side skirts. imo the 2gb eclipses are just perfection the way they are!

those should work but its tough to say if it would be short or not like mine was but for 100ish dollars id go for it thats what i spent and it sounds and looks very nice. the main reason i went to ebay for headers was for the fact that my stock manifold was falling appart... literally. but i also plan on turboing my car so i couldnt see spending 200+ for headers im just goin to get rid of in a year er so.

I would 100% go with any Tsudo N1 style exhaust and ebay short ram intake. As most people will recommend though you should replace the filter with a quality name brand, such as K&N.

I've had my ebay exhaust on for about 4 years, the piping is starting to rust but the muffler is still as shiny as when I got it. Tone of the exhaust is not ricy and has a nice deepness to it. I noticed when I put on my short ram intake the tone did get a little deeper also. Hope this helps.

I went with an AEM V2 CAI and DC sports ceramic 4-2-1 header and 2 1/2" pipe and I am very happy with results! Best part is I got it all off a donor at scrap yard for $50!!!!!:hellyeah: I havent chosen a muffler yet so I would actually appreciate some input on a good low throaty muffler to get from the pros?

i like k&n cold air intake better then alot of other intakes on the market bt its really just your desicion on what you want you can find some cheap exhaust systems on ebay and there is a intake by dp or what ever its called for 13 bucks buy now hope this helps or you can look on youtube at exhaust for your car and intake

A fart Pipe's a fart pipe man. Your best bet would be to scour MyTube for videos of different exhaust brands specifically on DSM's. My advice? Straight-pipe it. Not that it's legal, but it sounds very rude.

Well thanks for all the advice everyone! I've decided to probably go with the BBP catback exhaust from eBay (and maybe do a full system when my '79 z28 camaro is fixed up), the momo wheels, a cheap cold air intake from eBay (with a K&N filter though) and NOT do the body kit. Then if anything else just get the dents worked out of it and maybe put a wire mesh grill in the front with the Fallen shoes emblem painted in the middle of it. I've come to love the stock look of it so I'll just do a few performance things like a true DSM'r. Thanks for all the help!
