How much power are you looking to make? I have seen in the 1000whp range with a stock crank. However if you are looking to make that power you might look into a billet crank.

stock should be fine as long as it hasn't been cut. from what I understand cut cranks seem to break, so f it has been cut don't do it.

awesome. thanks for the info. do you know how long i could expect my car to last if i maintain it and have forged internals other than the crank at 600 awhp?

Forged internals aren't meant to last forever, I would think 10-20k miles and you have won the battle. I have seen some last to 60k but they are few and far between.

Cut cranks are fine for a mild build, I wouldn't recommend cutting more than .010" for anything other than an OEM rebuild. What happens is you cut into the nitride and it weakens the crank. You can have the Nitride process done to a cut crank and I don't see where there would be a huge issue with a cut crank at that point, a lot of the Small Block Chevy guys cut their rod journals down to the size of Honda rod journals to save rotating mass without issue (within reason.)
