Edmonton,
My stock 1g BOV is suddenly REALLY quiet. Here's the order of events over time that happened before I discovered this:

Remember, this is over the period of about a month:

1. bought the car, it had the stock bov (non-crushed) and a k&n airfilter, no can, the BOV was easy to hear even though its re-circed.
2. replaced the stock bov with a forge BOV, loud ass bov, venting to atmosphere (please hold the flaming, i was logging a/f for a shop guy).
3. did a boost leak test, found a huge boost leak at the turbo outlet gasket, fixed it with gasket maker
4. put the stock bov back on, re-circing, can't hear a thing between shifts, even though its re-circing 14psi.
5. took the re-circ hose off to make sure it was operating, rev'd it up and it is definitely working (its loud without with re-circ hose).

So I have no clue why I can't hear it anymore. Any thoughts? The car still boosts great and turbo stays very spooled between shifts. Just don't get why I could hear it before and now I can't. The only thing I changed was fixing the boost leaks. I posted in Newbie Forum because it seems like a stupid question even to me.

The new bov you bought has a large bore, so compared to your stock bov, the air is moving slower. Think of it as blowing though as straw or a big tube, with the same volume of air, you will hear the straw over a tube.

Easy...

When you fixed the leak at the turbo outlet pipe it stopped the car's pressurized side from having two 'vents' (i.e. you're 1g BOV and the leak at the outlet) small leaks can make cool whistling sounds when letting off the throttle...but they are not good.

Basically when you fixed the leak the only thing that is not releasing pressure is the BOV itself hence the quieter noise level.

And no I'm not a newb.. how can I get rid of my lurker status besides posting shit ton?????

Not reading the FAQs, rules, etc is certainly NOT the way to do this.

;)

You need 50 posts. 50 good, tech oriented, non-whoring posts.

I agree with BigPhantom. When you fixed the leak you changed the way your engine sounds by fixing a leak.

I agree with it being due to the boost leak test. Prior to knowing I had a major leak, you could hear my car halfway up the street because I was leaking so much air. Boost leak fixed, it wasnt near as loud.
