I am new to modding DSM's so please bear with me. I know for a fact that I need to get a boost guage. Alright what other guages are necissary with keeping costs low. I have heard that an EGT guage are so important and i have heard that they arent. Do I need an air/fuel or what should I get. I dont want to spend a lot cuz i need to buy other things. But besides the boost guage, what other guage (if i need more than one) do i need. Thanks for the help guys.

sounds like no others are needed yet for your plans, not until you start modifying the fuel system and get some tuning devices

I've always heard that a/f ratio gauges are useless unless you get a wideband and you won't need that until quite a bit later.

Sorry but it is definitely not necessary even if you plan on tuning the car. Some people tune by it and some do not. People have debated for years about using them. One thing is for sure....It's definitely not necessary!

Now if he researches it and decides he wants it, he's far from needing it now. His money is better spent on other mods first.

he might want to get used to what the readings are now as well as used to monitoring it and still driving if he is planning on using it a a big CAUTION! meter.

BUt spend your money elsewhere for now...

alest get basic mods done and have some tuning devices in hand or be ready to add them before getting it.

ANd despite what the lame-o guide says you don't need a metal intake pipe as your first mod.

buy a boost guage first, and then a filtero r bov second... I'd vote bov second.

A transmission temperature gauge would be useful to automatics. Just to be sure you're not overheating when lauching.

If you don't already have a data logger thats probably my pick for the next most important "gauge" aside from the boost gauge.

You would probably be amazed tuning your car how close you come to melting your pistons...

EGT gauge is very helpful and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to tune there car without blowing it up.

If they wern't helpful why do some "race" cars have a EGT gauge for EVERY exhaust runner.

Exactly.

Tune your car first, then install an egt and come and tell us how close you were to melting your pistons.
