Stereo Install

So I know I am going to get some heat for this highly asked question. the 96 Talon picked up recently had the stereo jacked out of it. Now I have spent about an hour reading threads and going through Vfaq. The car has the Infinity amp under the seat and the harness was not cut(Thank God for respectable thieves). Now If I buy a new single din head unit, door speakers, sub and amp, what is the right way to hook it up? I don't want to use the infinity amp as the head unit has enough power for the door speakers. The speakers have tweeters so I don't mind losing the dash ones, the amp I would use to power subs only. I would like to get by without running new speaker wire to the doors. Is there a plug-n-play harness that will allow me to run the new head unit/doors without the infinity system? I know this has been posted a ton but looking for one clear distinct answer.

TL;DR: Putting in new System, Don't care about tweeters, don't want Infinity system, plug and play harness for new head unit?

Figured I would hook up the system now because I am waiting on a new Boost, Wideband, oil Pressure, and Volt Meter to come in and will just wire everything in one go.

I just put a radio in mine (1996 eclipseGSX) and all that the amp ran was the dash tweeters. I was able to get a jumper harness for the chassis and just tapped into the harness at the amp for the dash tweeter connection. With putting in the single din unit all you need to do is wire the correct colors from aftermarket unit to proper colors for OE speaker location.

Did they cut the harness off the radio or actually unplug the old unit?

I do not know what unit was in previously, only that is was ripped out, the mounts and trim are all mangled yet the harness was simply unplugged.

The new unit will have its own harness. Google "2g DSM wiring harness" the first pic shows what all the stock wires are. Splice together. Unplug and remove infinity amp. Hook new amp up to new head unit for sub. Bam. Now your rockin

look up the 2g radio harness and just don't connect the factory amp wire to anything, cap the wire or put electrical tape over it

Don't know model #, but I have some Sony xplod in the back. Sound good, and they're cheap.

Ok. Just in case anyone in the future is wondering, I got the install done, with infinity system. I got a Metra wireing harness 70-7001.

This was perfectly color coded, the stereo I got Sony cdxgt270mp

Did not have a dimmer option so I left that capped off. But the wires color matched besides that.

The front doors are 6.5s I found that R615x3 from Rockford fit well, I did drill my own holes into the plastic mount but it was really close.

In the back was 6x9s. The common issue was that the wheel well makes the mounting depth shallow. MB Quart makes a set that fits( really snug, but they fit when screwed in)

Everything fit plug and play minus my adaptor from scoshe, it needed some cutting to fit and did make it, but there is a gap at the top and it looks bad.

I couldn't find a better one and I was disappointed with this one.

Otherwise everything went in well and it sounds great without having to touch anything with the infinity system. No bypass, no new speaker wire, and it works great all for about 145 dollars shipped from Amazon and they are all prime items if your a member for free shipping.

I'm wondering why you used that adaptor faceplate? That sony head unit fits in the regular slot with a single din pocket, like the ones on non infinity dsms. Junkyard, or like $8 on eBay.

Just to add, you can use your existing amp with this harness adapter. I've never used it but I've read good things about it. Too bad my 1G doesn't have infinity system

If you want the dash tweeters to work you either need to rewire them or get an adapter that adapts the odd din connector from the amp to a regular set of RCA's and a remote wire.
