Just bought this Steering Rack (Cardone) and wondering how many bushings I need to get and is there a certain brand recommended etc. I have original rack and car is 23+ yrs old so what else should I be doing on this rack swap?

Are there only 2 bushings needed? A mechanic just told me he thought it comes with 2 new bushings and that I probably only need to buy the 3rd one??

This not specific to your car (Galant), but shows what you need.

Above is both manual and power steering racks. There is a bracket on both driver and passenger side. The bushings are located under the brackets. Whoever removed the original rack, should have seen this. Replacement racks usually come with some paper work to explain what will need reused on the replacement rack. Additionally, if your mechanic looks at the mounting points on the the car, he/she will not find a third mounting point.

Ok thanks, but what about those pics of rack I just bought? Inside box there's a paper that says 'if this unit doesn't come with right side bushing, reuse old one or get another one'. Problem is I don't see any bushings on this new unit.

Replacement racks will not come with brackets or bushings (passenger or driver side). You can reuse your old bushings/brackets, or refer to post #2 for replacement bushings. You will also need outer tie rods.

My bushings are probably original and 23 yrs old. Is there any chance I pull them off and they're completely good or just assume they need replacing and buy them before attempting rack install?

Are those for a 1g power rack because they look a little different than the ac-delco's I'm seeing. I never had to replace a steering rack before and wasn't aware of bushing upgrades or their effects but I'm interested now. So are there other options out there too? My car is free modded only and staying that way but open to making improvements.
