Is this thing important? Weighs a bit, wondering if I could take it out. I figured it might be there just to keep the form of the bottom piece but it seems to hold up fine without it.

Its to help with the adjuster but i have never had an issue once i took mine out. If you looking for weight, the panel below on the dash has a huge metal piece for no real reason and i took that out too
