About a week ago my car started to crap out on me. It would only start if I gave it gas. Upon start up, slightly blueish smoke comes out of the exhaust as well as from the header, but quickly disappears. This makes me think I might be burning oil? Also, there is a strange sucking noise coming from the intake, which can still be heard when driving. Once the car is on, it soon lowers to its normal idle rpm (900), however, the slightest tap on the gas pedal would cause the rpm to shoot up to about 3000 and it would slowly lower to idle again. These issues are less severe once the car is warmed up. In addition, these issues seem to be intermittent, as in one day it would run like crap but the next it's perfectly fine. I checked my spark plugs and they are charred black, again I think I'm either burning oil or running rich?? After a forum search, I changed the EGR, IAC and fuel filter but no dice. I tested my plug wires and coil pack and they are just fine. There is no CEL. I am thinking maybe the fuel pressure regulator is bad, but I just want additional input before I go out and spend money. On an unrelated note, I just got my clutch and slave cylinder swapped out about three weeks prior to these issues. I am running out of options..and money. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If there's smoke coming out the header then you have an exhaust leak. Along with the rpms jumping up you have a vacuum leak on the intake side of the motor. Valve seals are a common thing to go bad on our motors. That's probably where the smoke is at. Do a compression check to rule out bad rings and blow-by so you know for sure to replace the valve seals.

have some one crank the car for you . pull the fuel pressure regulator vacum hose off and check

have some one crank the motor pull the vacume hose from the fuel pressureregulator and observe whether fuel is leaking from the fuel pressure regulator.

check out your tps map and air filter or coolant temp sensor unplug it clean it and plug it back up
