Stand alone screens

hey siueclipse, is that the original floor mat for eclipse or you bought from somewhere?

That looks like the Xenarc 7" LCD. You can see the specs here. http://www.xenarc.com/product/700y.html You should be able to pick that up between 300-400 bucks easy. It's touch screen too if I remember correctly. Also those floormats I believe are aftermarket. The stock GS came with the tan floormats i think. Also if you look at the pics that's not just a DVD player. He is running an Media engine software on there for the PC navigation.

Here is a good site for software for the car pc. I have not been there in a long time but it used to be pretty good.

http://www.mp3car.com/software.php

It's actally a cool idea that's rather easy to setup. You can do just about anything with an car pc. Look around google and you'll find easy plans and designs on how to put your own together for dirt cheap. Besides making the LCD listed above Xenarc also makes car computers as well but you should try to make your own first. It's not hard.

Here mine. I enjoy it. Got a good deal. :thumb:

They are everywhere. Tons of companies make them now but your better off getting the parts and making your own.

could you give a quick run down of the parts i would need? i would love to do this.

There is tons of them out there. The mp3car forum is one and www.logicsupply.com is another. There is many more, too many to list. These sites should be able to give you an idea of the parts you'll need.

What size screen is that ? and how did you mount that in ur dash? where did u install the dvd player? hardwire to battery or cig lighter?

Its a Xenarc 7" LCD Touchscreen. It comes with a mount. I customized a headunit sleeve and mounted the screen to the sleeve that fits in the dash. Then the sleeve just mounts like a normal headunit would.

I bought them on ebay. I just bought another pair which are slightly different. These come from the same sell though. Check them out.

Baker.. thanx for answering questions directed toward me. :thumb:

I wouldn't buy a kit from anyone. Price the parts and build your own. It's cheaper that way and you know what your getting. Also it's not hard to do at all. The links I gave are just a start this stuff is everywhere if you just look for it. Hell if you want to go all out you can get some resin or kitty hair and design your own mount in the dash instead of just using the stock hole. Making your own is the best bet not only to save money but also you know how it was built for when you want to upgrade the system components.

siueclipse: No more promoting yourself. Additional promotion could end in suspension.

Any carputer people running dsmlink on it? :)

You can run anything you want on it. It is a 100% full windows OS so it's just like having a desktop in your car. We know a guy who has one he built and he used wireless to sent all of his information from his logging software to his home PC from the garage. I would imagine if you wanted to take it a step farther bluetooth would not be a bad idea either.

sorry, people just started asking questions

We've seen you do it in other threads.

You can answer questions without throwing in a sales pitch or offering products.

Take it to PM's.

I think the mods are referring to the Vendor Policy - anyone selling a product or service is considered a vendor. Vendors are not allowed to promote their business in our tech forums. If you're selling something, you need to look into advertising on the site to reach our audience. We don't want people spamming our forums trying to gain customers for their business - that's considered self promotion. For more on our vendor policy, read here:

I realize that, I've contemplated a carputer for quite a while. I just wanted to see if anyone actually *was* running the link on it.
