my friend has a 240sx with a swaped in sr20t, its currently completely stock and i was just wondering how his motor campares to mine... i mean they are both I4 2.0l turbos... si which one has more stock internal HP potential? how do the power curves differ? what is a better engine? how does his car react to mods?

My freind has the exact same setup on his 240sx. When he raced a guy that had a 1g GST stock, the GST pullled him pretty good. You could tell just being next to them that the Turbo had seem to hit 300-500 RPM's earlier on the 1g than the 240. That is the only difference I have ever noticed between the 2. :dsm: :dsm: :dsm:

This has been discused many times so do a search and your answer should be there. They both are great packages and perform well with little mods.

Wow, I surely would put my money on a proper running sr20det depending on wich chassis it was sitting in. With bolt ons and stock t25 some guy from 240sxforums went 12.2 at 11X miles per hour. he was on slicks though too so......

Are you sure it wasn't a stock T28 motor? 12.2 on a t25 seems a little far fetched.

The S13 and S14 have the advantage of being rear wheel drive. Look at it this way though. You buy your S13 Driftaz for 2-4k (stupid kids forced up the prices now), you then need to do a 3-4k engine swap then mod the engine and the rest of the car, anohter say 3k.

With a DSM your paying 1-3k and your already at 210hp turbocharged. Skip the whole engine swap and just dump 4gs into the car.

240sx = 3+4+3 Total $10k
DSM = 2+4 Total $6k

Unless your like me and have a 2g then its

5+10-12= 15-17k for 500+ "reliable" horsepower :p

An SR20 that is putting out more power than a 4G63 will win, Just like a 4G63 with more power will win. It is that simple :thumb:

I know that it is just a matter of who spends more and I agree that the SR20DET swap si too expensive (drifters' faults). I just want to know what the stock compression on a SR20DET is. If any of you are interested, GReddy makes a turbo for the KA24DE engine that came stock in the 240's and it makes NICE power (I'd consider it over a SR20DET, but I know someone will say that he 2.4 is less reliable boosted because of the compression).

The KA is normaly more problematic becasue of age and wear. By swapping in a SR20DET your hoping to get one with around 30k miles and has been taken care of. Also for what it costs to get the KA up to the 200 some odd horeses the SR is putting down you might have well swaped the SR20DET in, not to mention after market is huge for the SR20DET.

Its basicly like the 2.0 N/A verse the turbo for the DSMs, yes, their are kits and what not for the N/A but why bother?

Cause the KA is only $300 (again because of stupid drifter kids flooding the market with them) for another one if you blow it rather than the SR being another 3-4 thousand.

You do have a point on that one. Not to mention the SR20DET is illegal.

I think the real advantage is the fact of the weight of the car. in order to compete with the rwd from a launch you would need AWD and the weight difference would be about 500 pounds give or take. no if you have the nice AWD colts that weigh less than the 240 you would have the advantage. assuming the mod levels are about the same of course. I have 3 friends with the det swap and i dont find them to be very reliable. lets just say all 3 of them have huffys as back rides. the one kid has a lil less than 400 hp and ran a 7.3 in the 1/8th. i havnt seen to many DSMs around that time in here but im sure there are many. for the money to HP with total cost i would stick to DSM any day. :dsm: :talon: :laser:

I would say their both pretty close performance wise. I have a buddy with a 240 with the S13 sr20 swap. Back when he had the usual bolt on mods with the stock turbo & when I had my eclispe with the usual bolt on mods & stock turbo we both ran another buddy of mines 97 svt cobra mustang which had a bunch of mods as well at seperate times. Of course the svt pulled on us both but the races were very similar when he started to pull & how far.

All I know is a FWD SRT-4 makes short work of a AWD WRX, a FWD GS-T and a RWD S14 with a SR20DET.

No wonder "everyone" hates the SRT-4, not "everyone" owns one. :p

Sorry to dig this post out but why are SR20DET's illegal? Im gonna have to call bs on that one. Ive never heard of any engine being illegal.
I believe it is not emissions legal and that would be why it is illegal to use on the roads.

y not just dump the skyline motor in a 240. it is possible i have seen it. then u got hella potential with a lightweight car :D

It's all a mater of what you like best in the case of the SR20DET vs. KA24DE, I had a '91 240 with 260,000 miles on the original engine, it never smoked, burned oil or acted up on me, so I'd stick my neck out and say that they are far more durable than the SR20 which is very prone to overheating at high boost and high RPM's due to a design flaw in the water pump. As far as horsepower goes, the KA is only down 50 horses from the SR, easily made up for with a turbo kit, for around 2 grand. Plus with the KA you get TORQUE due to it's larger displacement. Sure it won't rev to 7000 RPM's with the KA but you get the low RPM torque that the SR lacks. IMHO :thumb:

In states with a visual inspection it's not legal to swap an engine that is older than the car your swapping it into, if the engine is of a later date than your vehicle you must retain all emisions devices.
