Sr20det vs 4g63

The ka24 block can handle 500+whp from the factory (KA-t.Org) and even come with oil squirters from the factory. A turbo kit can be thrown on for FAR less than an sr20 swap, which the price has been inflated by the mad jdm yo market hype. The 1989-1991 ka 240s even come stock with eproms that liveEdit can tune as well as dsmlink. FAR less money is involved boosting a ka than swapping to an sr20.

But I do agree with your second sentence.

They have both sr20 fwd and rwd versions, I use to be in with the drift scene when I had my 240 and the sr's were WAY better than the ka's but nothing compared to my talon. One of my friends had his sr pushing 300 hp and blew the engine, all the work was done by a local shop and everything done right but still gave out on him. I say if you're looking for immense amounts of power steer clear of an sr.

well, pound for pound literaylly, the sr20det on a 4 door sentra will blow dsm away since it only weighs lke 2250lbs. I had a 1996 4 door GXE with SR20DET swap, GT2871r .86 a/r turbo, S4 cams, and JWT ECU. It made over 400whp (19psi) and weighed in at around 2260lbs. it was scary fast...think...wheels spinning at 90mph...The internals on that motor was completely stock...even the headgasket, and I WOT it every single day with no knock at all and the compression on the motor was perfect even after a year of running it that hard...
however, my assumption is that both the SR20DET and 4G63 are about the same as far as reliability goes.
I also had a SR20VE which is nissans version of vtec, and i made about 205whp all motor; now this motor is also known to take boost well even at 14 psi all day long on pump gas.
Lastly, i've owned an s13 with sr20det and the same goes for that...I've beaten it daily and still perfect compression.

I think this thread has gone far enough, I'm tired of newbs saying, "I had a friend..." or "this buddy of mine". then we have people that make "pound for pound" assumptions. A talon with free mods a boost controller hacked exhaust has run into the 12's, don't hear of any sr20's doing that.

why argue which one is better they both have certain attributes that is better than the other. i have owned an sr20 powered vehicle sense i have been able to drive. the sr20 is way more reliable because of its stout valvetrain, timing chain, and strong bottom end. if only the 4g63 was driven by a timing chain:rolleyes:.. now which one makes more power doesn't really matter because the 2 cars that the motors come in are completely different. i personally think it would be cool to see a rwd sr20 powered talon, why does everything have to be the same? it gets boring after a while. i like different cars hence why i own an nx2000.

I wonder if some company will eventually take it upon themselves to make a timing chain setup. Thing is, that would add rotating mass to the system. And people are already complaining about the crank pulley being to heavy. Plus, it's not like the belts are that bad.

Biggest turn off for me for the sr20's is the aluminum block and the fact that they like to toss rocker arms at higher RPM's. I believe there is an aftermarket plate that you can buy that keeps the rocker arms in place but either way its still not better stock for stock vs a 4g IMO.

Nobody except retirees and women leave a turbo equipped car stock. Fuel systems, turbochargers and exhausts all affect an engine's output abilities, are we considering those as well or just the engines?

Either engine can make power, only your budget, your adrenaline addiction and your ego will tell you how much is enough. Everybody knows someone who spent the money and built their car the way they wanted, with the horsepower level they thought they needed.

The real debate isn't which engine is better, it's which platform and purpose suits your fancy. But that's all a matter of opinion too.

a stock sr20det with the stock t25 on a B13 sentra can do 12's all day long at 15 psi and just a 3" TBE (instead of just sitting there and "hearing", try researching a bit and you will find out real quick; go to sr20forums.com and go to the 1/4 mile section.). Swap to a T28 + slicks on a B13 sentra you can run 11's. I know because have owned a T25, T28 + cams, GT2871r .64 a/r, GT2871r .86a/r, powered SR20DET's on sentras. And it's not like i don't have that much experience with 4g63 either, as I have also been modifying my EVO 9.

And when I said pound for pound... I also said LITERALLY, meaning the B13 and some B14 sentras weigh in at about 2250lbs. most dsm's weigh in almost 1000lbs more.

The sr20 and the car that is proud of it are only good for one thing DRIFTING...so 4g63 is better because not only it kicks ass with bolt on's, but it has been around for a longer time and you can get plenty of parts in the USA, not from Japan. Bring an sr20 engine from japan and see how cheap and easy is to get a part. And please people don't show the power of sr20 on an ford fiesta and how much quicker that fiesta can go with an sr20.

alot of that credit can go to the drivetrain

4G63 imo hands down the best 4cyl out there
