squealing belt

there is a squeal that happens eveytime i start my car. i've changed my alternator belt already and it helped it for a little while but then it came back and im thinking i may have over tightened the belt. when i start it it squeals for about 3 seconds or so and then stops and doesn't usually do it again until my cars been cold for a few hours i checked the tension and it seems to be tight enough although i dont have the right tools to check that. can anyone help me?? o i was also thinking about changing my alternator but the cheapest one ive found was 180 and cant afford that right not and dont want to if i dont need to. thanks guys

Power Steering, AC, and the other one. When I broke a belt, I broke the other one. I just don't rember what people call it.

the alternator belt?? idk its been a while since i looked at it so i cant remember exactly

ok so then how could i distinguish that as the problem rather then just a bad belt?? try the wd-40 thing??

BTW the "other" one is the alternator belt.

ok so about half an hour ago i went out and started my car and had left the heater on from this morning when i drove it and it started squealing badly and as soon as i shut off the heater it quit so i think its my a/c belt

Heater doesn't use the A/C unless you use defrost. The additional current needed to run the blower however, would put more load on the alternator which puts more load on it's belt which puts more load on the H.B. Check out my link above on H.B. It's a common failure on DSM's and can fool you into thinking it's a belt.

The heater has nothing to do with the AC belt.

This is gonna be a simple question, but where do I go to check out the harmonic balancer & a/c belt on my car? Want to try and work out what is causing this random squeal.

My belt squeled until i checked the ps fluid and it was low filled her up and no more squeal.

Do Not buy this part. Lasted only 15 days. I just ordered a genuine mitubishi one. Cheep aftermarket ones are crap.

well guys thanks for your help i got the squeal fixed. i took my car to a local shop and had them just look at it and he said that the belt was too loose and told me to unplug my alternator and then start my car after the thing had been sitting there for a while. so i tried that and the squeal didnt happen so i tightened it up and its gone now. i guess the belts have to be really really tight. thanks for your help

I actually have the same problem right now. It squeals for about 8-10 seconds when its cold, on startup, then stops. It does squeal more if I turn the headlights on without warming up the car. I will check the belts. My neighbors hate my car cause they get woken up to the squealing every morning!!!
