Belt Squealing

I recently changed my alternator belt and power steering belt because it was squealing quite a bit on cold starts and somewhat when it was a little warm.. It seemed to do the trick at first but now it squeals again just as bad for ~30-40 sec in the morning and for a split seconds throughout the day when I start it....... In the morning when I turn the heat/AC on it seems to make it worse but goes away faster... Could it possibly be the AC belt, or if anyone has an idea what it could be? The belts are not loose either... Thanks

I'm not sure if this was mentioned, but on Alldata it states that 98 eclipse, spyders, etc. with 4G63,4G64 motor have a special generator(alternator) belt to solve the squealing on cold start issue. Mine was doing this real bad on cold starts until i bought a new PS and Alt. belt.

You might not have enough tension on the belts. Have you checked?

Had a terrible squel for a while then one day everything quite power steering electrical everything. It ended up being the harmonic balancer. It seperated the grooves from the pulley. Check it out. Might be the problem once I changed it no more squealing. Might be the problem.

i replaced all three belts recently due to a little bit of squealing and because they were old as balls, and well, they still squealed after the fact. I took a better look and my harmonic balancer had separated from the rubber, but this is just me.

had this problem too after changing out my alternator. Just loosen the bolt attached to the swivel and if you have a ractheting open end wrench start tightening the adjustment bolt. Make sure that you don't have the one on the swivel too loose as once you get the belt tight you want to be able to tighten it down fairly quick.

+1 for same problem. Mine started with it on turns and start-up. Changed alt and ps belt. It has a new alternator, and a new red top. I've found so far its not the ps belt (I took it off and started it and its still there). Im gonna take the ac belt off and see if its that.

Oh and mine is a 95 GST.

I had the same problem and all I did was tighten the belt by loosening the alternator tension bolts and then tightening them and I havent had a squeek since then

Ok so I tightened up both my power steering and alt/water pump belt and the squealing went away for about 3 days. The squealing is now back but with a vengance. At cold start ups it's squealing even longer and even intermittently squeals while driving ie: at stop signs. I guess I'll try getting new belts..

I just put new belts on and now I'm having the same problem I'll try some of the things you guys mentioned here and keep everyone updated if I find a fix.

I fixed the squealing. Turns out the bolt that tightens the alt. belt came out of that groove from the bracket. Just had to make SURE the tensioner bolt for the alt. belt is fully seated in the groove while/after tightening the belt -_-

I'm slowly figuring mine out. I think I just need to tighten my belt a little more.
